Intro: Papercraft Low Poly Wolf Mask

I made a low poly wolf mask out of paper and now I want to share it with You guys. It fits a child's head, but You can always scale it up, using 3D computer graphics software like Blender.

To make your own, You will need:

Computer

3D graphics software or a program that creates buildable papercraft models like Pepakura

Printer

Some thick paper (I recommend 250 g/m^2)

Scissors

Cutting board

Dull knife

Ruler

Glue stick

STEP 1: Change Dimensions and Unfold Your 3D Model

To create the 3D low poly model I used Blender. It's free and it has a lot of functionalities. I attached a .stl file that You can use. If You want to change the dimensions just change the scale. Then unfold the 3D model. It will be divided into islands (in this case 29 islands), and Blender will add flaps on their edges to allow You to glue them together. After unfolding, You have to export the paper model, preferably in a .pdf file (I also attached a .pdf file ready for printing). You can also do all this in Pepakura, but I found that it adds unnecessary edges to models, so I try to avoid using it.

STEP 2:

After that You have to print your .pdf file on thick A4 paper.

STEP 3: Cutting

You have to carefully cut it out. I prefer scissors, but You can use a utility knife. Be very precise with the edges without any flaps. But when it comes to flaps, I like to add some area, to make it easier to connect the pieces later.

STEP 4: Folding

I use a dull knife and a ruler, to trace all the edges. It makes it easier to fold them later.

STEP 5: Gluing

I use stick glue to join all the pieces together. Blender marks them to make it easier to find them, but I like to use the 3D model to do this.

STEP 6: End Result

When You finish gluing all the pieces together, it should look like this. Do not worry if it got covered in glue. You will probably want to paint over it. If so, i recommend acrylic paint.

Edit: I added the painted version. Oh! And it turns out it fits me too.

You suggested "You can always scale it up, using 3D computer graphics software like Blender'... thank you I downloaded Blender - where do I find the file to scale it? I'm also very keen to learn how to design such masks - please give me pointers where to start by using blender

Hello I have just downloaded the wolf mask ,for my zoom lesson next week for world book day. My colleague and I are dressing up, she as the 3 little pigs and myself as the wolf.
I saw your wonderful 3d mask on the internet and thought it would be great to wear. As i said I have downloaded the pieces, but I have no idea how to put it together, which bit goes where. Is there something else I need to do?
The children would be so impressed with this mask if I can put it together before next Thursday.
Any help would be much appreciated

Try labeling it from Page 1 to the last one..? I'm not sure. I did it with someone and the person didn't tell me what they did. I'm trying to help you. I am not quite sure. Try using a glue stick and thick paper (if you aren't using it already) Here I'll show you mine so you can have an example and look back and maybe see how I did it. Mine is the one that tried it recently. Up on the "I Made It!" section. It has the green paint on it. I hope you accomplish that goal!

For those struggling with the numbers, allow me to help. the first number is what island the piece is from and the second number is what tab or flap you need to attach there. for example, I6: 1 means island 6 and tap/flap 1

Page 1 has [11]Island 11 with a coloured tab 13:1. See photo.
looking at the next number 3 in the ratio 13:1 tab you need Island 3 to paste 13:1 ratio tab to 1> line.

Could anyone explain the numbers a bit more in-depth please? I'm still struggling.

Let me explain you with an example. In 1st page there is a piece Island 11. In that there is a side saying I3:1, which means take the island 3 piece and paste the side 1 of island 3 here. Similarly I6:1 means island 6, side 1 should be pasted here. Hope you understand.
