Introduction: Paracord - 5 Color Key Fob

About: Couple of years ago I created my metal casting blog and over the years I uploaded many projects, my main goal is to increase the awareness of recycling, I use recycled scrap aluminum for all my projects and h…

In this instructable I will show a few easy steps on how to make a 5 color key fob using paracord.
For this project you will need:
* 5 - different paracord colors or the same, you decide.
* Scissors
* Lighter
* plastic clip or rubber band.

Everyone is welcome to have a look at my blog where I have a few more guides:
http://paracord-projects.blogspot.com/

Step 1: Choose Your Colors

After choosing your colors I would recommend fusing all cord ends before starting, this will prevent the inner strings popping out and will be easier when making the knots.

Take one more cord and tie a simple knot at the end that will act as the center cord. Add a few inches extra for creating some decorative end.

Step 2: Using a Plastic Clip

Take the 5 cords and clamp them into the plastic clip. It is optional to clamp the inner cord as well just try to arrange all the colors around the center cord before clamping.

Step 3: The Knot Pattern

This is the knot pattern, start with one of the colors and make sure the last cord ends under the first one every round.

Step 4: First Option for the Center Cord (slide In)

Here you have 2 options, if you didn't clamp the inner cord you can slide it into the first round of knots and thighten them around it.

Step 5: Second Options for the Center Cord (clamp It)

You can see here the 2 options: one is in the clip after tightening the first knot and the other way works exactly the same, inner cord tighten after sliding it in. Either ways are good just pick the easiest one for you.

Step 6: Keep on With the Knots

Keep on until the desired length is achieved.

Step 7: Cut and Fuse

Almost finished, on this last step you can take off the plastic clip, cut all loose cord and fuse neatly and carefully.
You can make a diamond knot at the end of the center cord or even a monkey fist as I showed in my last instructable.

Step 8: A Cool Key Fob

Here is the finished key fob.
You can attach it to many objects as a handle.

    I would like to just add that you might want to take the strands out from the inside or you will have have fat lines that dont lay down and always look sharp if you dont. Like I have been doing on my first one here. will send photo in a bit when done. Other than that very very good job on teaching us how to do it

    I have one that uses 3x 4 strand twisted and stacked a total of 12 strands but only 4 are used at one given time.

    Nice and clear 'ible. Tried it but with 6 strands and using different lengths. Turned out to get a nice bottle shape as the two shorter ones ran out.

    If you use only two strands, it makes a "dna" shaped key fob.  i tried it after seeing it on your site
