Intro: Pasticciotto Leccese (Custard Pie)

This pie is called Pasticciotto and is typical from my little town in the South of Italy. You wont be able to find it anywhere else! It is basically a soft pie filled with custard. I just love it! You guys should give it a try

Ingredients:
(for the crust)
2 cups flour
2/3 cup shortening
2/3 cup sugar
3 egg yolk

(for the custard)
 egg yolk
250 ml milk
2 tbsp flour
1/3 cup sugar

STEP 1: Step 1: Make the Custard

Beat together egg yolks and sugar
Add the flour and slowly pour in the milk.
Bring it to a boil mixing till it gets thick.

Let cool down

STEP 2: Step 2: Make the Crust

Mix all the ingredient together till you get a soft dough. Put it in the fridge for 20 min.

STEP 3: Step 3: Shape It!

Take the dough and divide it into 3 portions. Divide each portion into 2 parts one bigger one smaller.
Take the bigger part and roll it out into a 0.5 cm thick disk. Use it to cover a muffin cup.
In the centre pour in a couple of spoons of custard. Roll out the smaller piece and use it to cover you pie.

Repeat with the other 2 portions.

STEP 4: Step 4: Bake It!

Slightly brush your little pies with some egg and bake at 180 C for about 45 min.
I had some dough left over and I used it to make some small cookies.

popular in central new york home of many Italian Americans you can even have them sent to where you live anywhere in the country http://www.uticapizza.com/

Hi, there!! I LOVE Pasticciotta!! Actually, it is VERY popular in my hometown in New York. They are difficult to find in most parts of America, but in NY, very popular (probably because there is a high Italian American population)and many people make them at home. Chocolate are my favorite.. :-)
These look heavenly! My husband loves custard, so will have to make this for him ;) Thank you for sharing!!
I'm am defiantly going to try this!
*Wipes drool off mouth*
What's defiant about trying it? Is there some rule against pastry where you live?
I think NinjaFixedIt meant "definitely" not "defiantly," as in I definitely look like Benjamin Franklin.
@Sheepguy42 I meant to say "definitely" like as in : Of course I will try this recipe since it looks so awesome! I made a miistake when I said defiantly because I used the Instructables spell check and I was in a hurry..LOL.
I live in Lecce, believe me, perhaps it's our best traditional pie! The original shape is different, yours seem like muffin. http://www.portocesareocamping.it/public/gallery/Pasticciotto_galatina.jpg
this sounds great! I had some questions with the recipe though, is there only one yolk in the custard?
Yes because with the amount of ingredients i gave, u will only be able to make 3 little pies. If u want to make more, just double the quantities.
OMG; now these look so good! I think I must learn your secrets...
