Intro: Peg Game IQ Test Solution

Many of you have probably seen the peg test game(a 5x5x5 triangle that has 14 pegs and 15 holes) at Cracker Barrel or in multiple game boxes at Wallmart, but can any of you solve it consistently? I can teach you a consistent way to solve it, though not the only way. There are many solutions. So don't worry about learning this way and not having any fun any more because you can solve it. Just use this to laugh at your friends weak mental strength or make yourself seem smart in front of your boss or in-laws at dinner. This is my first instructable, so constructive criticism is encouraged. If you have useless complaints and insults, than you should know that I know where you live.

STEP 1: The Rules

If you know the rules than you can skip this step if you want. The purpose of the peg game is to test your problem solving and strategy skills. It has 14 pegs in 15 holes. You jump pegs over one another to remove them. The number you have left indicates your I.Q. One peg left is the best you can do.

STEP 2: The Set Up and Grid

In this step we will assign a grid to better explain how the steps follow. Since the triangle is equilateral it doesn't matter which corner is up, just point any corner up. The first row from the top is A, second is B, third is C, etc. The number corresponds to the peg from left to right. Look at the picture for reference. From now on, I will use the pegs "name" to give the directions.

STEP 3: The Order.

This is one way to win, though there are many.
1. A1 is empty. C3 jumps B2 into A1.
2. C1 jumps C2 into C3.
3. E4 jumps D3 into C2.
4. E2 jumps E3 into E4.
5. E5 jumps E4 into E3.
6. E1 jumps D1 into C1.
7. B1 jumps C1 into D1.
8. E3 jumps D2 into C1.
9. D4 jumps C3 into B2.
10. A1 jumps B2 into C3.
11. D1 jumps C1 into B1.
12. C3 jumps C2 into C1.
13. C1 jumps B1 into A1.
There, it may be long, but you should memorize it. If they see you checking your notebook where you wrote it, they might catch on.

STEP 4: End Game

Now I want you to know that I take no responsibility for anything you do with this information. If you solve it and no one else can, then you act high and mighty and get fired or beaten, it's your fault, not mine. If any of you want to know what the worst possible peg game solution is, respond and I will make a new instructable.( it leaves 10 pegs!)

Here are three solutions ending at start with 0,1,3 empty.
If you start with a middle one empty (4,7,8) there are no solutions with ending at start.

I do E3 as the empty one in the beginning. Then I do:
E1 over E2 to E3.

B2 over C2 to D2.

I call it the "Teepee strategy" because in the beginning it looks like a teepee.

Interesting. To download the rules to win requires me to jump through hoops and download a lot of crap on my computer. No thanks.
