Introduction: Pen Holder for Moleskine Notebook

This is a simple and easy method for creating a way to hold your pen for your Moleskine notebook. (This can be adapted for other notebooks as well) You'll need an iron-on fabric patch (available from almost any fabric store or the sewing section of your favorite retailer), an iron, scissors, and of course, your moleskine notebook and pen.

Step 1: Cutting the Fabric Patch

Grab your scissors and the fabric patch and cut it down to size. My notebook is a 3x5 so I cut the fabric patch so it was about 1/2 inch from each end and would have about 1/2 to 3/4 of an inch on each side of the notebook for the adhesive. It's a good idea to measure with your pen to get an idea of how snug it needs to be.

Step 2: Apply and Iron

The fabric patch already has the glue in place (the reason it's iron-on). Heat your iron on "cotton" for about 3-5 mins. Make sure you have it set for dry or no-steam. I found it easiest to "tack" one side then wrap my pen to get the proper fit and then tack the other side. Once both sides are "tacked", remove the pen and finish the job. I recommend using a plain piece of paper between the iron and the moleskine (notebook) to avoid burning the cover of the notebook. Press down firmly and move the iron up and down along the edge on both sides for about 45 seconds to insure a good firm bond.

*tacking means to heat it briefly to make it stick so you can make adjustments

Step 3: Voila! You Have a Nifty New Pen Holder!

That's it! Let it cool of course. Try not to let the inside of the pen loop area stick to itself....if this happens, quickly use a small screwdriver or other implement to get it apart. Once cool the glue on the inside will be hard and will not stick to the pen.

Now you have a great way to keep your pen and your trusty notebook together! No more fumbling for a pen or worrying about losing it!
