Introduction: Pepper Trick

About: I am married with two children. Spring, summer, and fall are my very favorite times of the year. I enjoy working in the yard, sewing, cooking, quilting, gardening, and creating. I do this to keep my sanity.
Here is a pepper trick my Mom taught me as a young child. I taught my kids this trick also. We always played games and tricks after dinner.  It brought us together as a family.

Step 1: Supplies

Small glass of water.
Pepper shaker.
Large plate with a rim.
Dish washing liquid soap.

Step 2: Water

Pour the water into the plate as full as you can without it spilling over the edges.

Step 3: Soap

Do this part secretly;  you don't want to give away the trick.

Place a drop of soap on your index finger.
Gently rub the soap between your index finger and thumb.
You don't want to rub it in like lotion, you need it to be a little watery.

Step 4: Pepper

Shake the pepper into the water.

Step 5: Method

Place your finger along the edge of the plate into the water.

Step 6: Trick

As soon as the finger is placed into the water, the pepper slides across the opposite direction of the plate.

Step 7: Sunshiine's Final Thoughts

This is a great trick to pull on a dinner guest.

In closing I would like to thank our instructables company, sponsors, authors, readers, and members; for making this community a great success! Many hours and hard work has been put into making this place the best DIY on the Internet. Have fun and thanks for stopping by!

Use unscented dishsoap since it may be safer for your guest. Fragrances are toxic to many humans.

    Nice trick!

Maybe it works too with flour, starch, sawdust, etc. I think the surface tension is involved.

Love the trick, and this is the perfect patter! Now to find some appropriately-aged kids, or gullible adults, to try it out on. :)
