Perfect Sour Mix

Intro: Perfect Sour Mix

So I'll preface this by saying I enjoy a cocktail on occasion. On the occasion that I want a whiskey sour, or when my wife wants an amaretto sour, I don't always have sour mix on hand. So I decided to make my own.

This is my first Instructable, so bear with me.

STEP 1: Ingredients

The basic ingredients are:

Simple Syrup

Lemon Juice (Fresh or Bottled)

Lime Juice (Fresh or Bottled)

STEP 2: Simple Syrup

We'll start with the simple syrup. It's a very useful ingredient in multiple cocktails and like the name implies, extremely simple to make.

You will need 1 cup of water and 1 cup of white sugar. Bring the water to a slow boil in a saucepan and add the sugar. Stir until completely dissolved. Remove from stove and allow to cool.

By the way, this will make about 2 cups of simple syrup.

STEP 3: Mix It Up

Take 1 cup of simple syrup, 1 cup of lemon juice, and 1/2 cup of lime juice. Combine in a seal-able container and mix well.  This will keep for about 1-2 weeks in the refrigerator, though I would be surprised if it makes it that far. Enjoy!

Thanks. With that much sugar and lemon juice it should last longer in the fridge if you don't drink it first. Almost like our lemonade recipe only we add some ginger to it. Mix with water to taste.
Thanks for your input. I estimated about 2 weeks because fresh juice develops an off taste if left too long. I may have to try your lemonade idea, though!
Great recipe. Sour mix always tends to disappear after parties (either consumed or carried off), so this is very helpful.
