Introduction: Phosphorescent Bike With Ultraviolet LEDS

I made this phosphorescent system for more security and style to cycle in Paris.

This project is really easy to make !

Enjoy the video :-)

Step 1: Make the Rings.

I did not use the bicycle rim like existing projects because it is too thin and brake blocks would weaken the paint. Instead I made my own phosphorescent rings out of plexiglas.

First, use a compass to make the two rings, calculating the right dimensions for your wheels.

Step 2: Here Is the Compass

Here is the compass I made myself, because it is really hard to cut plexiglas.

Step 3: Here Are the Two Rings

Now let's move to the painting of the two rings.

Step 4: Painting of the Rings

I started with a white primer coating special for plastic.

Step 5: Varnish Step

Then I added a layer of phosphorescent paint and a layer of varnish.

Step 6: UV Leds

I made 4 modules to lighten the phosphorescent rings on each side, each one with 4 UV LEDS . LEDS are mounted in parallel because I wanted to power the whole system with a 5V battery.

Step 7: Modules

To make the modules I drilled plastic ducts pieces.

Step 8: Waterproof Modules

I used transparent silicone glue to seal and waterproof the modules.

Step 9: Attach the Rings on the Wheels

Each ring is mounted between the spokes and attached with plastic clamps.

Step 10: Battery

The 4 modules (16 LEDS) are linked to the red and black wires of a USB cable to be able to plug the system to a 5V smartphone power bank.
