Introduction: Pi in the Flipflop Make Cricket Ball

In this Instructable, I will guide you through the process of transforming a pair of rubber flip-flops into a cricket ball. This creative project is not only eco-friendly but also a fun way to repurpose old footwear. With just a few simple tools and materials, you can create your own cricket ball that's perfect for casual games or practice sessions.

Supplies

  1. Rubber flip-flops
  2. Sharp knife
  3. Rubber solution or adhesive
  4. Sandpaper (medium and fine grit)

Step 1:

Selecting the Flip-Flops

Choose a pair of rubber flip-flops that you no longer need or want to repurpose. Make sure they are made of durable rubber material that can withstand the rigors of being shaped into a cricket ball.

Cleaning the flip flops

since the used flip flop is old from trash it has to be cleaned

Removing the Straps

Using a sharp knife, carefully remove the straps of the flip-flops. Start by cutting along the edge of the sole where the straps are attached. Take your time to ensure a clean cut and remove any excess rubber.

Step 2:

we need to consider the relationship between the cylinder and the sphere.

When a cylinder is circumscribed around a sphere, the diameter of the cylinder is equal to the diameter of the sphere

calculate the length of cyclinder of diameter 60mm using 5 rubber pieces of 12 mm thickness

5*12mm = 60 mm

it forms a cyclinder of diameter 60mm and length 60 mm

The volume ๐‘‰of a cylinder can be calculated using the formula:

๐‘‰=๐œ‹๐‘Ÿ2โ„Ž

Where:

  • ฯ€ (pi) is approximately 3.14159
  • r is the radius of the cylinder
  • h is the height or length of the cylinder

Substituting the values into the formula, we get:

๐‘‰=๐œ‹ร—302ร—60

๐‘‰=๐œ‹ร—900ร—60

V=54000ฯ€

so make a cylinder by cutting circles of 60 mm diameter into 5 pieces

Using rubber solution attach them to make a cylinder

The volume ๐‘‰ of a sphere can be calculated using the formula:

๐‘‰=4/3 ๐œ‹๐‘Ÿ3

where:

ยทย ย ย ย ย ย ย ย ฯ€ (pi) is approximately 3.14159

ยทย ย ย ย ย ย ย ย r is the radius of the sphere

substituting value we get

V=36000ฯ€

so to obtain a sphere ball we remove 18000ฯ€ (54000ฯ€ - 36000ฯ€)

It is the beauty of pi which converts waste flipflop into a cricket ball

Step 3:

Remove Corners:

Cut off the corners of the cyclinder along the midpoints of the edges. This process will start to round off the corners, moving the shape closer to a sphere.

Smooth the Edges:

After removing the corners, smooth out the edges of the cube. This can be done using sandpaper or by carefully shaving down the edges until they are rounded.

Refine the Shape:

Fine-tune the shape as needed to achieve a smooth, spherical appearance. Pay attention to symmetry and overall proportions

Step 4:

Testing Your Cricket Ball

Once the rubber solution has fully cured, your DIY cricket ball is ready for action! Take it outside and test it out . Adjust the weight and shape as needed for optimal performance.

Conclusion:

Congratulations! You've successfully transformed old rubber flip-flops into a custom-made cricket ball. Not only have you created something useful out of materials that would have otherwise been discarded, but you've also had fun and learned new skills in the process. Enjoy your DIY cricket ball and happy playing!
