Introduction: Pill Putty for Dogs

Here's an easy recipe for peanut buttery "putty" to surround any pill your dog needs to take. My dogs love them! This treat makes giving pills to a doggy super easy.

It's so much cheaper than the ones you can buy at the pet store.

Ingredients:
Peanut butter
Old fashioned rolled oats

Equipment:
Kitchen scale
Coffee grinder
Bowl
Spoon
Tsp measuring spoon

Step 1: Make the Oat Flour

Weigh your oats and grind them up.

I weigh out 90 grams (about 3 ounces) in the top of the coffee grinder.

This recipe calls for 3 parts oats to 2 parts peanut butter (by weight).

Step 2: Add the PB

After you make the oat flour, dump into a bowl. Put the bowl on your scale and add 60 grams of your favorite creamy peanut butter.

Step 3: Mix It Up

Start mixing with a spoon. After breaking up the glob of peanut butter, start mixing with your fingers. The consistency should end up like a slightly crumbly play dough. If you think it's too dry, add a little more peanut butter and mix it thoroughly.

Step 4: Press Into Measured Pieces

Press mixture into a teaspoon measuring spoon (or whatever size you want).

90 grams oats + 60 grams peanut butter yields about 28 tsp servings.

Scale up or down depending on how much you want to make in a batch.

I put them into a ziplock bag and put in the freezer. Whenever I need to give my dog a pill, I take one serving of pill putty out and let it warm up on the counter for a couple minutes before using it.

Cheers to happy and healthy doggies.
