Ping Pong/Billiards Shelf

Introduction: Ping Pong/Billiards Shelf

We have a ping pong table that sits on top of a pool table in the basement. My dad is always complaining of the pile of paddles, talc, chalk, and racks laying in the corner of the room. I was unable to find a shelf that accommodated all of these accessories so I decided to surprise him by building one myself.

Step 1: Materials and Tools

- 5/8 in. pine wood
- 1 in. wooden dowel
- 2-1/4 in. x 5 in. x 7 in. basswood corner bracket
- wood screws (x10)
- molly bolts (x3)
- keyhole hanger (x3)

You'll also need the following tools:
- jigsaw
- drill
- dremel
- handsaw
- sandpaper
- stain
- varnish

Step 2: Planning

The shelf is comprised of 3 main pieces that were cut using a jigsaw. The indents for the pool chalk and ping pong balls were cut using a dremel. The handle of the paddles get slightly wider at the end which allowed me to hang them upside down. I had to be very exact with the width of the slots for the paddles so I used a file and sand paper to ensure I didn't make them too wide. The 3 pieces were sanded, screwed together, stained, and varnished. Keyhole hangers were screwed to the back for mounting.

Step 3: End Result

Overall I was very pleased with the finished product. It now keeps everything nice and organized and looks pretty cool!
