Piping
Intro: Piping
Have you ever wanted to make piping for a sewing project? It's not difficult and it adds a nice interesting detail to throw pillows and other decorative items around the house.
STEP 1: Supplies
For this project you will need:
100% cotton clothesline, the package I bought was 100' long
Sewing machine, matching thread, scissors, measuring tape, straight pins
Zipper foot for your sewing machine.
STEP 2: Cut Fabric Strips
Cut fabric strips 2" wide on the Bias. It is important that the strips be cut diagonally because it helps give the fabric a little "stretch" when you sew it around curves and corners.
STEP 3: Sew Fabric Strips Together
With 1/2" seam allowance, sew strips together at an angle. Press seams open. This keeps the piping from having bulky places.
STEP 4: Pin Cord in Fabric
Fold the fabric lengthwise and place the clothesline into the fold. Pin.
STEP 5: Sew Fabric Onto Cord
Using a zipper foot, sew the clothesline into place stitching right next to the cord.
There you go! I've made piping out of old cotton woven shirts. A length of clothesline will make quite a bit of piping.
