Introduction: Altoids Tic-Tac-Toe and Puzzle Fun

About: I am married with two children. Spring, summer, and fall are my very favorite times of the year. I enjoy working in the yard, sewing, cooking, quilting, gardening, and creating. I do this to keep my sanity.
Having an overnight party? Entertain the kids on a Saturday morning by letting them make these biscuits. You could not go wrong serving these one morning.  Breakfast  will never be boring  playing with Tic-tac-toe and puzzle biscuits. I wished my kids were young again.  They would have really enjoyed playing with their biscuits using this idea. I enjoyed making these biscuits more than any that I have ever made.  It requires little time and effort to make them.

Step 1: What You Need:

Ingredients:
  • Flour
  • Canned biscuits
  • 2 servings Fruit roll ups
Please note:  You will need 2 biscuits per serving to figure out how many cans you will be baking.

Step 2: Utinsils

Tools:
  • Dough board or cutting board optional
  • Kitchen scissors
  • Altoids can for the Tic-tac-to
  • Skewer
  • Several different sizes and shapes of cookie cutters
  • Baking sheet
  • Knife

Step 3: Preparations

Instructions:
  • Pre-heat oven following the instructions on the can.
  • Flour dough board.
Note: If making these for the first time I would lower the baking temp and baking time because the smaller shapes bake quicker and you might want to remove them sooner.

Step 4: Dough Puzzle

Cutting the shapes for the puzzle:
  • Lay the biscuit on the floured surface and pat flat or use a rolling pin.
  • Cut out the shapes with the cookie cutter.
  • Before removing the cookie cutter move it gently back and forth and side to side to make the opening a little larger but still keeping the shape.

Please note: I baked the shapes separate from the biscuit, However I think it might be best to keep the shapes in the biscuit after they are cut and wiggled. This might make it work slightly better. I noticed some of the shapes did not fit as nicely but they still worked.
If they cook together for some reason you could use a knife,  and gently trim them to remove from the biscuit. The next time I make these I will try baking half with the shapes in and the remaining half with the shapes out.

Step 5: Tic-tac-to Dough

Cutting the shapes:
  • You will need to flatten 1 biscuit for the board and leave it uncut.
  • Use another biscuit for the stars and hearts.
  • You will need 2 biscuits per serving.
  • Lay the biscuit on the floured surface and pat flat or use a rolling pin.
  • Cut out the shapes with the cookie cutter.  You will need 2 different shaped mini cutters.
  • Place the entire biscuit with the shape intact on a cookie sheet.
  • Bake the biscuits according to the instructions in step 3.
  • I would bake  them on a slightly lower heat and also shorten the baking time, so you can keep an eye on them and remove them from the oven as soon as they are done.
  • Remove from the oven.
  • Allow to cool just enough not to burn your fingers.
  • Carefully using the skewer push the shape through the biscuit.
Bake the biscuits according to the instructions in step 3.

Step 6: Embellishments

Cutting the fruit roll ups:
  • Trim 5 thin strips from the fruit roll up.
  • Put one strip on the wax paper the fruit roll up came on.
  • Roll it on the paper until all of the strip is covered with the paper.
  • Repeat this with the rest of the strips.
  • Roll it into a long small roll.
  • Fold it over and place it in the Altoids can.
  • Place the shapes in the can.
  • The kids set up the board and then play the game!

Step 7: Sunshiine's Final Thoughts

The kids will enjoy decorating the board and playing the game.  The younger kids will have fun putting the puzzle together.  The cool thing about these are they are not messy at all, until they are ready to eat.  I hope this tutorial has motivated you to dig out the biscuits and start baking.  I had a lot of fun baking them.

Thank you for stopping by and do visit again!  I am always tinkering here at Instructable's  and will have new tutorials in the near future.
Take care and have a stupendous day!
