Introduction: Pleated Origami Pawn Which Transforms Into a Queen

About: A fellow hobbyist venturing into creative ideas

I noticed that in chess kingdom, a pawn quickly turns into a Queen when it reaches the final space.

I wanted to create a similar structure through Origami.

And in doing so, I came up with this idea, since in Origami, there are multiple folds which can be hidden through the paper, I hid the lower section of the Pawn, and during promotion, it will turn into a queen.

Supplies

  1. Paper printout of the diagram as shown above.
  2. Printer.
  3. Scale. -to fold the lines.
  4. A4 sheet of paper - to printout the design.

Step 1: Printout the Design

  1. Print out the design and start folding along the lines.
  2. Fold the first symmetrical piece as shown in the diagram, the lower edges are on-off to hind the section of the Queen.

Step 2: Make All Necessary Folds

  1. Start folding as shown, first fold as per the diagram.
  2. Start curving the design into a Pawn.
  3. Stick the last and the first designs together.
  4. Now, fold the design again to give it Pawn Shape.
  5. Open and close the design to mimic a Pawn turning into a Queen and back.

Step 3: I Promote You, My Pawn.
