Plum Wood Shelf

This shelf was made for a Whiskey-shop to display little bottles.
The wood for this shelf is damson plum. Here you can find more information about this tree: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Damson

The construction is very simple.
The horizontal boards are only screwed on a big back board.

The tools I used:

• thickness planer
• table saw
• cordless drill
• sand paper

Misc

• linseed oil
• screws

Step 1: Split the Back Board

The back board was to big for my thickness planer, therefore I split it with wedges in two parts and planed every part separately. Later I glued the two parts together and no cut was visible!

Step 2: Plane

I planted the two parts of the back board and the shelf boards.

Step 3: Glue the Backboard

After planing I glued the two parts of the back board together.

Step 4: Cut the Shelves

The shelf boards are thicker pieces of plum wood with bark.

Step 5: Mark the Position of the Shelves

Because the back board has no straight edge it is impossible to make a perpendicular mark,
therefor I clamped the back board on my clamping box and parallel a long water balance.

Now I made perpendicular lines to this aluminium bar.

Step 6: Drilling Holes

Now it is easy to drill two holes for every shelf.

Step 7: Finish

I put some layers of linseed oil on the wood.

Step 8: Assembling

First I clamped a piece of scrap wood on the back board straight to my line and on this I clamped a shelf board.
I flipped it and screwed the shelf board on.

Step 9: The Suspension

As a suspension I screwed a L-shaped plate onto the back board.
