Pocket Knife From Junky Multitool

Intro: Pocket Knife From Junky Multitool

Last year I received a not so good multiitool. Its parts were very loose, its knives were so dull it didn't even have an edge, and it collapsed when I use it. So I decided to make it into something better, a pocket knife. This project was fun because I got to customize and tweak the parts into what I wanted.

STEP 1: List:

1. one junky multitool
2. small saw (from great quality multitool)
3.metal file (one for small spaces and one large one)
4. hammer
5. knife sharpening device (oil stone or I used a pampered chef knife sharpener)

STEP 2: Decisions

This is where you chose what tools you want in your pocket knife. This project might have been easier if I marked what tools I wanted with a sharpie.

STEP 3: Breaking an Arm Off

I decided I wanted to use the same handle of the multitool for the pocket knife because it would be alot of work making a custom handle. I wanted to keep this project simple.

First I cut the plastic casing off where the arm connects to the pliers. This reviled a rivet. Rivets work well but are a pain to get out, well they aren't supposed to come out anyway. I took out a file and started to grind the rivets head off.

STEP 4: Creation

Sorry I don't have much pics for this step, I was on a working roll and you know didn't stop to photograph some things.


Basically I got the arm off and accidentally bend one part of the the case and it snaped off. So I ground off the adhesive and made it shiny. I then ground the rivet holding the parts in place and took everything out. Then I chose the parts I wanted from both arms and riveted them to the case. (Thanks armourkris for the instructable on that). Then I hammered the bottom where there was no parts inward, this made a nice grip for my hands because now all my fingers can go the same distance around the case.

STEP 5: Sharpening

I couldn't find my dads oil stone so I use a Kitchen knife sharpener that was quick and easy. I being my clumsy teenage self, cut through my thumb and a fourth of my fingernail with the knife sharpening. So I tell all now: Watch where your fingers are!

STEP 6: Enjoy!

I don't know the exact brand, but it was a cheap one I bought years ago. After a week of use I had completely the pliers. I was just about to throw it out until I saw you instructable. Thanks!

Do you just solder the rivet back into place or weld another top on it or..?? what do you use to replace the filed rivets to hold the tools you kept in place?

its a pretty cool instrucable but you don't need to add stupid things like "admiring its shinyness" or "scratched out china"

yeah i have a habit of adding bits of my own humor. Some think its funny some don't. But I'm thick skinned about it. I'll take your word, it does sound stupid now, but it didnt then.

If you didn't know this, you want to sharpen the edge of the knife until it isn't shiny. On a dull knife, the edge is shiny. On a sharp knife, the edge is so keen (sharp) you can't see it.
