Introduction: Polymer Clay Ball of Mystery Pendant

About: I love basically any kind of craft, especially if it's jewelry making. I also LOVE baking, and just food in general. My main hobbies consist mostly of: Polymer clay, Rainbow loom, Duct tape, and baking or maki…

So I saw that Instructables had a jewelry contest going on. So I wanted to enter and I was thinking of what I could do, then I remembered this. I kind of was putting this off for a while but the deadline was coming up fast so I finally got myself to do it so, enjoy.

*Also I need name suggestions, I'm thinking "Ball of Mystery" is too boring and doesn't really describe it that well. Comment your suggestion if you have one :)

Step 1: What You Need

You will need:

  • Clean Workspace
  • White Polymer Clay
  • Something to Cut Your Polymer Clay with (A blade)
  • 1 Eye Pin
  • 1 Jump Ring
  • Acrylic Paint
  • Paint Brushes
  • Something to Hold Your Paint
  • Needle Nose Pliers
  • Optional: Glaze (or Top Coat Nail Polish)

Step 2: Preparing the Pieces

Take a chunk that's a little bigger than the size of pendant you want. Roll it so that it makes a cylinder shape and keep rolling it until it's 1/2 a cm across (not long). After you can either cut or rip off different sizes of clay pieces.

Step 3: Creating the Pendant

Take the pieces of clay in your hand and roll it in a circular motion. Keep rolling it in your hand 'till it looks like the third picture. Make sure not to roll it too much or you won't be able to see the lines. If you do roll it too much, it's ok, just redo step 2. Once you have your ball, insert the eye pin through the top.

Step 4: Baking

To bake it, set your oven or toaster oven to 275F and bake for 20-25 mins.

Step 5: Preparing Your Paint

While that's baking you can prepare the paint you will use to make your pendant colorful! Choose how ever many colors you want. I recommend 3 which is what I'm using. Also make sure to only put a tiny amount of paint in, you will not need a lot. You also might want a small cup of water to wet your brush along with a cloth to dry your brush (because mixed paint colors are annoying!) Once the timer goes, take the pan out. CAUTION: Pan will be hot when removing, use oven mitts!

Step 6: Painting!

Wait until your pendant has cooled off before doing this next step. The next step is painting your pendant. To do this, dip your paintbrush just slightly into your paint and paint the section you want. Then choose a different color and paint a different section. This is completely customizable so if you want to change it up, feel free to. To prevent paint smudges, hold it by the eye pin so that you're not touching wet paint and messing it up. As you can see, my painting skills aren't the greatest, so it's fine if it looks kind of messy (it adds to the style).

Step 7: Glaze and Attach

Wait 'till it's dry before glazing it. This is optional if you don't have glaze or top coat nail polish. Just brush a thin layer of glaze all around. You should wait until the glaze is dry before continuing. Next, open your jump ring and put it through the eye pin, place the chain in there too and close it.

Step 8: Done!

Now your done! Hope you enjoyed! Please like, comment and vote, thanks so much!
