Intro: Pop Art Lips

Makeup that pops.

STEP 1: Materials

  • Red lip liner
  • White lip/eye liner
  • Black liquid eyeliner
  • Black eye shadow
  • Small makeup brush
  • Lipstick sealer (optional)

STEP 2: Red

Take red lip liner and trace around the areas where you would like the white reflection to be. The reflection will look best along the upper part of the top lip and the lower part of the bottom lip.

STEP 3: More Red

Color in your lips with red lip liner. Don’t color in the areas you outlined in the last step; you will be filling those in later with white liner.

STEP 4: Outline

Outline the entire lip area with liquid eyeliner.

STEP 5: Lines & Triangles

Take the liquid eyeliner and paint lines coming out from the inner part of your lips; follow the natural lines of the lips. To make it look more animated, make some of the lines into little triangles. The points of the triangles should be facing toward the outer part of each lip.

STEP 6: Shadow

To create the shadow, run the liquid eyeliner along the inner part of the top and bottom lips. Open your mouth a bit and make sure you covered everything along the inner lip.

STEP 7: Corners

Using a small brush, gently dab some black shadow on the corners of the lips.

STEP 8: White

Add some shine by coloring in the empty spaces with white.

STEP 9: Done!

If you want the look to last, finish it off with some lipstick sealer.

Fun effect! How does it all hold up to extended wear/ talking?

The liquid liner I used was not waterproof, so after about an hour I noticed that it was starting to wear off along the line where the lips meet. But, it was something that could easily be fixed with a quick touch-up. The rest of it held up pretty well. I thought that somehow the white would smear or start falling off but thankfully that didn't happen. This was probably because it was along the border of the lips where there isn't much movement. I only wore it for a couple of hours (without lipstick sealer), and it still looked good with the exception of the liquid liner in that one area. Waterproof liner and lipstick sealer would definitely help everything stay in place.
