material
to make this pop-up card, you will need:
- a piece of a4 paper with printed patterns on one side
- a piece of drawing paper (about 5 in. by 7 in.)
- two pieces of index cards (or thicker paper that’s about 3 in. by 5 in.)
- some tape some glue
tools
to make this pop-up card, you will need:
- color pencils (or any kind of coloring tools)
- pencil, eraser and ruler
- scissor or paper carving knife
- cutting mat (optional)
Step 1: Create the Layers
- draw two lines on the drawing paper which separated the paper into three parts that are about 3 in. 3 in. and 1 in. by 5 in. we don’t need the 1 inch one.
- Draw the layers on the opposite end of the paper
- Cut out your design and set them aside
Step 2: Put the Layers Together
- Cut the first index card into 4 slices that have same width and length as the bottom space of the four layers (which have different width but same length), then glue it on the back side of the layer.
- Make two cuts that’s about ¼ inch long on the layers. Make sure that all cuts are in the same place of the layers and are the same length.
- Take the second index card and cut out two stripes that’s about 1 in. by 3 in. Set the rest of the index card aside. Then, fold the 1 inch stripes into half and glue it. Make four cuts that’s about ¾ inch deep on both of the 1 inch stripes.
- Combine the first layer with the 1 inch stripes and use small piece of tape on the back of it. Do the same thing on the rest of the layers.
Step 3: Assemble the Card
- Flatten the layers (make sure that the layers are rest in the right way -- the first layers should be on the top left)
- Cut out two 0.5 in. by 3 in. stripes from the remaining index card from Step 2.
- Fold both of the 0.5 inch stripe and glue one of them on the bottom of the last layer. Glue the other one on the 1 inch stripe that’s on the right side after being assembled.
- Fold the A4 paper in half, then fold it in half again. Put the layers on the left side of the card. (The bottom of the layers will form an angle with the middle line of the card at about 30 degree)
- Glue the back of the stripe that's on the last layer to the left side of the card.
- Put glue on the other 0.5 in. stripe, fold the stripe so the glue side is facing up. Then, close the card so the stripe sticks to the right side of the card.
- Wait till the glue dries, and the card is done!
