Introduction: Popsicle Stick Beverage Coaster

Popsicle sticks and a hot glue gun handy? Time to put em to work!

Step 1: What You'll Need

Just some Popsicle sticks, hot glue gun and the glue to go with it.

Step 2: First Layer

I recommend using something to catch any extra glue underneath your project. I just used an extra binder I had around the house, something easy to peel the glue off of if I need it later.

Lay 10 Popsicle sticks closely and evenly next to each other.

After your hot glue gun has been heated up, squeeze a line of glue across the top of your sticks about 3/8" down and place a stick horizontally on top of the glue (you'll want to move quickly as the glue dries and hardens fast). Press down on the stick until it is good and stuck in place and repeat at the bottom.

Step 3: Second Layer

Put a little dab of hot glue on each end of the sticks you just added, place sticks going the opposite direction on the remaining sides as shown in the pictures. It'll start to kinda look like the beginning of a pallet, only with rounded Popsicle sticks of course.

Step 4: Backside

Flip over to the backside and be ready to quickly attach it to another layer. Lay out ten more sticks as you did in the beginning, add glue on the edges again as well as a zig zag of glue in the middle will help it hold together even better (sorry I didn't get the extra glue in the middle pictured). You'll want the flat side against the new layer of sticks with the edges lined up evenly. Don't forget to press down and hold to make it stick good.

Step 5: Last But Not Least

Finally, the last step. Now we just want to build up the edges a bit on the side your glass will be sitting on. A little dab of glue just on the ends of the two sticks, place a Popsicle stick going the opposite direction of the ones already attached and repeat once more back in the original direction.

You should end up with you layers of ten sticks on the bottom, and three layers of just sticks on the edges.

Step 6: You're Done!

Voila! Now you have an inexpensive coaster for those sweaty cups. Your're tables will thank you for the unwanted water rings.
