Introduction: Popsicle Stick Folding X-Bow

About: Hey, have you ever heard of a giraffe who loves to build!?!?!

So, I had the crazy idea to build a fully functional mini crossbow made out of popsicle sticks. But WAIT! That's not all. The crossbow also folds to fit in your pocket! (*crowd aahhs) After a whole lot of work, here it is!

Step 1: Make the Trigger System

Assemble and glue the pieces as shown above. I used clips to make sure that the pieces were glued securely. When you have given them enough time to dry, sand like there's no tomorrow!

Step 2: Construct the Body

Cut your popsicle sticks to shape and glue them together. Drill holes in the sides of the crossbow for the trigger mechanism (I used a toothpick). Put the top part of the trigger in place and glue the other side of the crossbow on. Attach the bottom part of the trigger. I had to use two separate pieces to hold them in place. Use another toothpick to attatch the bottom part of the trigger. For clarification, refer to the diagram above.

Step 3: Make the Arms of the Bow

Cut your popsicle sticks to size and sand their edges. Drill holes in the joints of the arms for the folding part. Use toothpicks for the joints and glue together. Attach to body of the crossbow with lots and lots of glue. Also drill two holes in the body of the crossbow for the arms to lodge into.

Step 4: Final Touches

Cut a paper clip in half and bend it at a 90 degree angle. Glue to the front of the crossbow to hold the arrow in place. Attach rubber bands (depending on the size and strength) to the arms of the crossbow. Load it by pulling it around top part of the trigger mechanism. Use a pen ink cartridge as an arrow. What are you waiting for? Go use you're new fold-able popsicle stick crossbow!

Step 5: Glamour Shots!!!

Overall, this 'ible was a major success. Just a reminder, never aim or shoot at anything living. I used a 99 Cents Store foam board as a target. The arrow will actually stick into it which by the way, makes a really satisfying THWAP sound. Thanks for checking out this 'ible.
