Do you have an extra small skull or other small item you would like to keep safe and still be able to display wherever you go? In this Instructable, I will show you how to make a small, classy, yet durable display for your tiny item using items you probably already have around the house. Shall we begin?

Step 1: Materials

This materials list is very straight forward and short. You will need the following items:

  • 1 small old glass jar (baby food or capers work great)
  • 1 over sized thumb tack or wine cork
  • a pinch of epoxy putty
  • 1 hot glue gun with a stick of glue
  • 2 of your favorite colors of enamel paint
  • 1 paint brush
  • 1 small skull or other precious small item to display

Step 2: Remove the Spike From the Tack and Hot Attach to Lid

Using some pliers or a wrench or hammer, somehow remove the spike from the over sized thumb tack. Using the hot glue gun attach the spike-less tack to the inside of the lid of the jar with the flat side facing up.

if you are using a wine cork instead of a giant tack then cut the cork in half and glue to the inside of the lid

Step 3: Paint the Lid and Base of the Display

using your favorite colors, paint the outside of the lid one color, and the base another solid color. the outcome will look like a tiny bust for a statue at this point.

Step 4: Make Sure

Before securing your item down to the display make sure that the jar can fit over the item by placing the item on the base and putting the jar over it... if it all works out go ahead and go to the next step, if not you may want to consider using something smaller or making a display with a slightly larger jar.

Step 5: Attach Your Skull

place a strong glue or epoxy putty to the base of the jaw so that you can attach it to both the top of the skull and the display stand giving the skull an open mouth effect. Let dry for 12- 24 hours. screw jar on.

Step 6: Congratulations

You just completed your first miniature portable skull mount. (I call it portable for its size but you probably shouldn't tote this puppy around all the time.

Feel free to show it off to your friends who will be shocked and amazed with the wonderful creation you have brought to their attention.

jar on or jar off it can make a great decoration year round, or be a great gift for your friend who appreciates the darker side of life.

Thank you for enjoying this Instructable! I hope you learned a lot and will continue to make and learn!
