Introduction: Portable and Handy Rechargable Variable Power Supply

About: i mainly focus on turning junk stuff into some productive stuff.

Hello guys,in this instructable,i would love to share a simple and easy DIY portable and and handy rechargable variable power supply from some waste stuff and batteries.

This type of handy and portable variable power supply can be carried anywhere along with you and can be used to check any electronic stuff outside. This variable power supply provides dc voltage ranging from anywhere in between 1.2vdc to 13.2vdc.The batteries i have used in this project are rechargable.chart on enclosure shows the voltages at particular point.

This is different from mobile charging powerbank because mobile powerbank provides only a constant voltage supply and cannot be varied.

Step 1: Things You Will Need.

Tools:

  1. Soldering iron,soldering wire.
  2. Screwdriver and plier.
  3. Small saw.

Electronic stuff:

  1. Rechargable batteries.
  2. Battery charger.
  3. Battery connectors (9 x spring connectors and 9 x flat connectors).
  4. Battery connector (2 x joint spring and flat connector).
  5. 3 x 4pin male connector and 3 x 4pin female connector.
  6. 2 x 1pin female connector.

Other stuff:

  1. Small plastic enclosure.
  2. 1 feet plastic pipes whose diameter is nearly equal to those of batteries.
  3. Plastic sleeves.
  4. Some screws and nuts.
  5. 4 x Small steel angles.

Step 2: Circuit Diagram of Power Supply and Recharging the Batteries.

The circuit diagram of my handy and portable variable power supply is shown. All the batteries are connected in series with wire connected between every two battery. The wire is connected to pin of male connector. You have to connect a female connector to male connector to give voltage to load.

When the battery get down, you can again recharge it.The battery charger is capable of charging four batteries at a time.

Step 3: Soldering of Battery Connector Together.

In this step,we will solder the battery spring connector and flat connector together and solder wire to it.In same way, solder the remaining battery connector and wire to the connector.

Step 4: Cutting Plastic Pipes and Inserting Batteries Along With Connectors Into It.

Take the pipe and cut it into pieces as per the battery length.

[Start inserting the batteries into the pipe in series. After inserting the batteries into the pipe and connecting it in series, this is exactly how it will look as shown in the image above.] (i had to do this step just to show you how to insert the batteries into the pipe).

Now again take out the batteries from the pipe and make hole at the centre of every pipe with soldering iron.Place the battery connector into the pipe and pass the battery connector wire through the hole.

Now again insert the batteries into the pipes after placing battery connector into the pipe.In the same way do it for the rest of the pipes.

Step 5: Placing the Connected Batteries in the Enclosure and Making Internal Connection.

Take the first set of battery and place it in the enclosure and insert the battery connector at the end of every battery.Similarly place the second and third set of battery in similar fashion and make the connection by placing battery connector at the required points.

NOTE: All the batteries are connected in series.

Step 6: Fixing Angles on Batteries.

Take one angle and place that angle on battery and make hole as per the angle hole and fix that angle with screw and nut.Similarly follow the above step for second angle. The angles will keep the batteries at it's place and will prevent the batteries from coming out.

Now take the third angle and fourth angle and fix it at the end of last battery. The third and fourth angle will keep the batteries at it's place and will also hold the battery connector.

Step 7: Soldering Wires to Connector and Fixing Connector on the Plastic Enclosure.

Take the lid of the box and make three little big holes on it with solder iron.pass the wires of first four batteries through first hole and insert plastic sleeves on wire.

Now solder the first wire on first pin and push the sleeves forward covering the soldered part.Similarly solder the second wire on second pin and so on... and cover the soldered part with sleeves.Follow this step for the remaining wires.

After completion of soldering, stick all the three male connector on lid with help of strong glue.

Step 8: Power Your Stuff...

Now you can carry your portable and handy variable power supply outside along with you anywhere and can check any electronic component and stuff.

To obtain different voltages,,just switch the female connector from one connector to another.

It is capable of providing voltages between 1.2 v to 13.2 v.

I have made this project by making use of waste stuff and can be further modified in many ways.

"AND PLEASE FEEL FREE TO SHARE YOUR SUGGESTION AND ANY KIND OF ADVICE TOWARDS MY PROJECT IN WHICH IT CAN BE FURTHER MODIFIED OR IMPROVED".
