Introduction: Portuguese Chocolate Salami
I grew up on this stuff. a no bake easy to make desert. There are probably as many variations as there are cooks, this is just another one, here I am experimenting with Hazelnut chocolate and a little bit of vanilla.
Step 1: Ingredients...
4 oz Melted Butter
4 oz Unsweetened Cocoa
4 oz Powdered chocolate of your choice ( this time I am experimenting with Hazelnut chocolate)
4 Egg Yolks
Vanilla Extract/flavor
One Package (7 oz) of "Maria Cookies"
Other Stuff:
Large bowl
Whisk
Large wood spoon (not in the picture)
Step 2: Whisk Butter And...
Whisk Butter and Sugar (I like to use brown sugar, white sugar can be used if preferred)
Whisk till you have a creamy mixture.
Add yolks one at a time, mixing well between.
Add chocolate powder, cocoa, port wine and vanilla
Mix well till all chocolate is moist.
Step 3: Crush Cookies...
Crush cookies and mix well in.
Put on foil, shape like a salami, wrap and refrigerate a few hours or overnight for the flavors to meld. Cut slices about 1/2" thick and enjoy.
P.S. try bringing up to room temperature before eating.
Enjoy!!

my good lady wife also makes this delicious sweet however instead of egg yolks (because of risk as they're uncooked) she uses condensed milk. As I originate from Lancashire UK these look just like Bury black puddings and when we serve this to friends who have never seen this sweet they're fascinated by this.
