Pot Lid Handle From Bicycle Brake Pad

Intro: Pot Lid Handle From Bicycle Brake Pad

Howdy Internet folk. Let's take a venture into an afternoon in my late 20's, when I was tired of two pot lids in my flatshare having broken handles. One afternoon, the solution crashed into me like a person riding without brakes: bicycle brake pads! I had a few lying around after I changed the brakes on my bike.

On first thought, it seemed a good fit! Rubber top and screw bottom. A match made in heaven. After cleaning off the brake and the nuts it came with, I attached brake to lid. This is the only picture this instructable deserves.

Did I not put in enough thought into this project and put myself and my pot in grave danger? Not sure about it, but you'll likely see it in any comments that you'll see below. Is it a thing I have done which I am disproportionately proud of, given the amount of work I put in and its payoff (both: not much)? Yes, of course. I'm in my 20s.

Note. One pot still had its inner silicone transparent ring thing, which I kept inside. The other I did not.

Update on this project: The lid handles are going strong, even after
being in the dishwasher for several cycles. There is a little bit of
surface rust on the hex nut but it's not a big issue.
Great idea! Thank you for sharing it :-)
