Printable Choice Board With QR Codes
Intro: Printable Choice Board With QR Codes
Choice Boards are excellent tools to give students the freedom to choose the activity, question, task or problem based on differentiated learning. (Making Differentiation a Habit: How to Ensure Success in Academically Diverse Classrooms by Diane Heacox)
We will build a tic-tac-toe choice board enhanced with QR codes that can be printed as a poster.
STEP 1: Design Your Choice Board
Diane Heacox provides the following guidance to design an effective choice board for differentiated leaning:
- Tasks are focused on student learning goals
- consider learning preferences, readiness, complexity
Once you have 9 activities that you want to add to the board you can go to step 2. The information that can be encoded in the QR code can be:
- hints
- links to lessons, material
- instructions
STEP 2: Create QR Codes for Each Activity
For each activity, you can build a QR with text and links to the lesson. You can use any qr generator solution. I use the free plan on https://www.qr-code-generator.com/.
Download each code
Tip: give each QR code a descriptive name.
STEP 3: Build Choice Board
Using powerpoint, Google Slides or a similar tool, build a large presentation (custom size e.g. 40 in x 40 in). This size will help when you print the board. Give the instructions that you want to the students in a text box and add each QR code. See an example of a design.
STEP 4: Print and Assemble the Board
Using a board printing service (e.g https://rasterbator.net) you can print the board in a large format. Using tape and scissors, assemble the poster.
