Program Key for Toyota Sienna

Intro: Program Key for Toyota Sienna

I did not come up with these instructions on my own. I had programmed keys for other cars pretty easily, and was frustrated the minivan was so difficult to program. I had a locksmith scheduled to come out today, but after he called to reschedule, I found these instructions online. Happy to say it worked.

If you're looking for instructions on how to program a key fob, look here: http://www.ehow.com/how_6128421_program-keyless-en...

STEP 1: Buy a Transponder Key From the Internet

The Toyota Sienna uses a 4D-67 key. I bought two for $15 on ebay. These are pretty widely sold. Check the seller's reputation, but they are cheap enough that there isn't much sense for them to be selling fakes.

STEP 2: Get You Key Cut by a Locksmith

I took my keys to ACE. They charged me more than most locksmiths, and they did a crappy job. A bunch of the keys I had cut (did more than just for this minivan) didn't work. I'm going to a locksmith next time.

Since they aren't selling the key, they are likely not going to promise the key will work, but locksmiths will typically duplicate keys cheaply.

STEP 3: Follow These Steps to Program Your Key

Sit in your van with all doors closed. I opened and closed the door one time to 'clear' the system.

Insert your original master key to key cylinder 5 times and leave it there ('in' and 'out' four times, just 'in' the fifth time).

Open and close driver side door 6 times. Should be closed when you do the next step.

Remove master key from key cylinder, insert your new cut transponder key.

Turn that new key to "ON" position.

Look at that red engine immobilizer light (the red light to the left of the speedometer which is car shaped with a black key in the middle of it). It is blinking.. wait about 1 min and it will turn off by itself.

After engine immobilizer light turns off, remove new key and insert original master key. Start engine.

Now try your DIYed new transponder key to start your Sienna.

These instructions would be MUCH more useful if it listed the model years to which these instructions are applicable.
That didn't work for my sienna 2013. I tried many time to program my new key fob. Didn't work. Why?
Sorry I don't know. Maybe they changed it for your model year. This worked for my 2011, someone below said it did not work for their 2015 either.
Did not work on 2018 Sienna with H key
Instruction needed modification for my 2004 Sienna XLE, NO Navigation. After removing the master key and inserting the newly cut key DO NOT turn new key to ON position. After about 20-times trying the instruction as written unsuccessfully (the immobilizer light would never shut off), I tried leaving the new key in the unrotated, merely in the inserted position, I waited the 1-minute and the immobilizer light finally turned off. The newly cut key could then be used finishing the procedure as otherwise instructed.
I tried on my 2015 Toyota sienna key mark with an H
Didn't work
Yeah, I presumed they would change the system eventually. Bummer it didn't work for you, though.

Thank you for the instructions.

Ordered the blank on Amazon (https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00KTHXJHK ), and Home Depot cut it for free, too.

One slight change on our 2004 Toyota Sienna XLE with Navigation. Our Sienna has the in-dash navigation screen, so the immobilizer light is _not_ next to the speedometer, since it is in its own button to the right of the navigation screen. Also, the blinking never stopped for the immobilizer light button...so I just let it blink for 3 minutes and continued with the instructions. Worked fine.

Hi. It worked for my 2004 Toyota Sienna. Smoothly and easy. Thanks. Ah! And I live in Puerto Rico.

will this work for a 2011 sienna

Worked great! I did 2 new keys and 2 new fobs using this and another instructable. Total cost, $12 for the keys, $3.50 to cut them, and $35 for the 2 fobs. So $50 total instead of well over $200 for a dealer to do it. Heck yeah!

I want to do the same with my mitsubishi, do you know how to get the instrutions for other cars?

I have a 2006 Sienna xle. If I follow the procedure to program my copy key and it does not work, will it mess up my master key and make me unable to ignite the engine with the master key? Appreciate your feed back. Thx

I doubt it. I don't think you're actually programming the key. You're programming the van to accept the new key as valid.

But proceed at your own risk.

What do you mean by Master Key? I bought the car used and received 2 keys and one was recently lost. I want to replace it. Is the Master Key just the other key I have, or is it a special key?

Thanks!

Yes, the master key means the one that is cut and already programmed that it sounds like you already have.
Awesome. Worked great on my 2006 toyota sienna. Thanks for these simple instructions. Saved me $40

Thanks! Worked Great! I bought the key on Amazon. Home Depot cut for free.
