Projection Mapping With 3D Tracing

Intro: Projection Mapping With 3D Tracing

You can do a projection show just like Disney with only a video projector, a laptop, and some video editing or presentation software.  Set up your projector in exactly the place you want to project from.  Make sure it has the settings set such that you can remember how to get them again.  Hook up your laptop and set your laptop to the same resolution as the projector.   Now using a full screen drawing program, trace the contours of the 3D object you are projecting on to create a 3D trace.  Then use that trace as the background for your video so you know where stuff will end up.   That is all there is to it.  See http://bateshaunt.com for more.

This is one of the reasons I love this site.
Hi, neat Video, i have a good question, what Kind of Projector you are using ?
Ill appreciate some help with this
I'm using a Panasonic PT-AE3000U now, but most projectors are fine. Glad you liked it. See my website for many more answers to questions. http://bateshaunt.com
i know what software you use, but i dont understand how they all work together, i get the 3D trace part, but after that im lost, how do you combine the 3D trace and pictures/video so that it all looks like its supposed to?
You put the 3d trace in the background when you are laying out your show. Then you can line up the foreground elements in the places they will in the actual projection. Before you do your final build of your video/presentation hide the trace.
What software did you use? and did you use multiple projectors?

Thanks in Advance,
Tim
Photoshop, Premiere, and Garageband mostly. Just one projector.
