Introduction: Propagating My String of Bananas

About: gardening, gardens, crafting & creating. let's make the world a more beautiful place. eco-centric company inspired by nature & lovin' the great outdoors.

My String Of Hearts has been growing like crazy in the warm desert temps and was badly in need of a haircut. I pruned about 3' of trails off 5 or 6 weeks ago. Growing in the same hanging pot is a String Of Bananas and a String of Pearls. I noticed the trails of the SOBs had started to branch and fill out at the bottom but the tops were getting a little bare. I decided it was time to get on with the propagating of my String Of Bananas plant and do some filling in.

Step 1: Take the Cuttings and Add Them to the Plant Mix.

I took the cuttings, & for the sake of the video, planted them in the mix right away. With thin stemmed cuttings like String Of Bananas or String Of Pearls, I usually let them heal over for 1-3 days before planting.

Step 2: Create Two Holes in the Mix.

2 holes were made in the mix with the larger end of the chopstick & I planted them in.

Step 3: Secure the Cuttings.

The cuttings were secured down with the floral pins. By the way, the pins can be saved & used over again multiple times.

Step 4: Let Them Settle.

Let them settle in for a few days & then gave them a good watering.
