Intro: Pannkaka - a Swedish Delight

This is a DELICIOUS family recipe that goes back generations. My mother taught me to make this when I was young, she always said "It is as easy as 1,2,3!!!" 1 egg, 2 flour, 3 water.  That is the secret to remembering how to make a Pannkaka (similar to a crepe). Whether it's breakfast or dinner, this tasty comfort food is a treat!!  And oh, you don't have to be Swedish to enjoy this!

STEP 1: Ingredients & Supplies

For this instructable you will need the following items:

Ingredients:

1 Egg
2 Tablespoons of flour
3 Tablespoons of water
Jelly or jam
Sugar
Butter

Supplies:
A pan
A wisk
A spatula
A butter knife
Measuring spoons
Mixing bowl (small is fine)

STEP 2: Mixing the Ingredients

First, crack the egg into the bowl. Then add 2 TBPS of flour followed by 3 TBSP of water. Mix until everything is nicely blended together. This yields a more rugged batter. For those who would like a lump-free batter do the following: Beat the egg alone, then work in the flour beating it as you go. Then work in the water and mix nicely. This will make it a much finer, liquid consistency. There is no right or wrong here, just mix as you'd like.

STEP 3: Cooking

To prepare the pan, melt a dab of butter on medium-high heat. Once the butter has melted, sprinkle some water in the pan and listen for the 'zzzzz' sizzling sound.  This indicates the pan is hot enough to proceed.

Next, pour the egg batter into the pan. Wiggle it around a little trying to make it a circle. It is okay if it is not a perfect circle.

After a little bit of cooking the edges of pannkaka will start to curl. As soon as you notice the edges start to curl flip the pannkaka over. Let this side cook until golden-brown. Use your spatula to lift the pannkaka up and peak under to tell if it is golden-brown. Feel free to cook it to your own liking.

STEP 4: Finishing

After it has finished cooking, turn off the heat and place the pannkaka on a dinner plate. Then use a butter knife to spread some jelly or jam onto the surface of the pannkaka. Finally, roll it up, and sprinkle some sugar on top. (This step is not shown) Now cut it into bite-size pieces and enjoy this yummy delight--from my kitchen to yours!

Thanks for making the instructions so easy. I have ADD and don't currently have access to my meds. This is going in my belly immediately.

What a great comment! Enjoy.....

Thanks for the recipe--I cooked my first one this morning and it turned out pretty well.

That is great! I am so happy that it worked well for you. :)

Hello, I am glad this interested you. It is delicious! I love homemade jams as well. Hope you find time to cook one soon. I find it a 'comfort food'. Eat in good health!

Just so you know: the first one in the pan is almost always a failure. For almost everybody. I call it tradition...;)

Here in Argentina we know them as panqueque (pronounced pun-keh-keh)
But we usually fill them with dulce de leche.

It's spelled Pannkaka!

Thank you very much! I had a feeling something was wrong with spelling... I corrected the spelling. Thank you so much!

That looks good.....really good.
