This is a remix of the Pocket Siren by Kiteman, a laser-cut turbine whistle.

I don't have access to a laser cutter. But I do have a personal paper cutter a cricut explore I've won here on instructables btw. :D

So I decided to build the siren with paper instead of the acrylic in the original instructable.

Oh and... please vote if you like it.

STEP 1: Cut the Paper

If you have a plotter that can cut paper, then load the SVG and cut it. The SVG is in A3 wich fits nicely onto a 12x24 cutting-mat.

If you don't have one you can print it out and cut it by hand. Obiously a lot of work.

I used 300 gram card stock, if you use thinner paper, you'll probably need more sheets than fit on one page.

Make four piles, one for the bottom plate (the ones with just one hole). One for the top plate with the many holes. One with the turbine and one with the enclosure.

STEP 2: Glue

Take one of your pile and glue all the parts together. One after the other.

I pressed each part between two sheets of plywood to keep them straight and bond the layers.

STEP 3: Assemble

To keep the turbine from hitting the outside walls, i used a little piece of wood in the centre.

Before glueing all the parts together be sure to test it out. Check if the turbine rotates freely.

If everything works, glue the plates together and...

STEP 4: Blow

That is very, very strange - Because of the lighting angle, the first picture of step 2 looks to me like the paper is heavily embossed with a pattern. It's only when I start at the bottom in the shadow of your thumb that I can start to see it correctly as a raised track of glue, and then I can scan my eyes up and see the whole glue layout. But blink and it goes back to being embossed again. Is it just me?

I saw that too & was very confused until I read your comment. I have to turn it upside down to see the glue line. Thanks for your keen power of observation, now I can't wait to try this.

You're right. looks like the glue is inside the paper. As if it was filling trenches.

Must be the light. I was taking the pictures at night while I was building it.

Yay, I love the laser-cut one but can not afford it, now a paper version here despite it seem a little heavy to blow. You've got my Vote :) Thanks!

Yes, paper is not the ideal material to build a siren with. But I wanted to see if it was possible. And yes, it is! That's the advantage of working with paper, you can try things out because it's so cheap.

I'm wondering, has anybody actually made an "ordinary" acrylic one, or has everybody decided to make it out of something else?

Also, who will be the first to build one out of bacon? Or red velvet cake?
