Intro: RGB Changing LED Lamp With IR Remote Control

I have an old but beautiful IKEA lamp, however the 12V 20W halogen bulb it used is broken now. The idea of replacing it with LEDs came up days ago, luckily I got a LED controller along with a SMD RGB LED strip, so I decided to give it a try.

STEP 1: Stuff I Use

1. the old Ikea lamp called Qila;
2. RGB LED controller with LED strip and 12V 1000mA AC/DC adapter;
3. Hot glue gun and other handy tools...

STEP 2: Take Out the Halogen Bulb and Its Socket

STEP 3: Mount IR Receiver and LED Controller

STEP 4: Replace the Power Cord

the orignal lamp used ac power so the power need to be replaced.

STEP 5: Mount the RGB LED Strip

STEP 6: Tada!

nice tutorial ! Very easy to do.
I'm curious as to why you didn't use a bridge rectifier to turn the 12V AC into 12V DC?
this is the best use for old lights, i built one for my girl friend (now wife) last year but at the time i didn't have any IR Remotes so i used an older style controller that you had to press the pause button when you saw the color you wanted, you should try using some of the RGB Modules instead of the flex strips as they would be easy to install and you could dubble or tipple them up to get more light, my brother used some on his motorcycle and they were easy to connect as they already have wires on both ends and are only $3ea :-)

Nothing says "marry me" like an RGB mood light! :D
yup, I should've gone with high watt RGB moudle at first, but the strip and controller kit were all I got back then, the light can be better if I replace the only-three-SMDs-on-it strip with a longer one and wrap it up like you said, :)
it turn on three RGB leds to produce the white light
Where did you get that RGB controller from and how much? How much power will it output ( how many LED's can you run off it) Looks like just what I need for the mood lighting in my car.
just called the vendor in Shenzhen, asked him for a sample, and i covered the domestic shipping fee.
I'll add some video real soon...
videos added,see the last step.
I'm sorry to say, but your videos don't work. On my computer, they just have a thumbnail that says "This video cannot be embedded on other sites".
Thank you for pointing that out, I just found out the link is invalid, I'll upload them again to other website like youtube or something, coming soon!
