Introduction: Rainbow Paper Stars

Rainbow paper stars for a rainbow themed birthday party! We love making these paper lunch bag stars for all holidays and birthdays. They are a super quick and easy craft to do with the kids for decorating.

Supplies

Each star:

  • 9 white paper lunch bags
  • spray paint of your choice ( we chose rainbow colors)
  • small stapler
  • hot glue gun and hot glue
  • string
  • ruler
  • heavy duty scissors

Step 1: Glue Paper Lunch Bags Together

Place a bead of hot glue down the center of the flat side of the bag and across the bottom. Quickly place a second bag directly on top of the first with the flat side of the 2nd bag facing up. Place a bead of hot glue on the flat side of the second bag directly down the center and across the bottom. Place a third bag directly on top. Continue until all 9 bags are glued together.

Step 2: Design Star Shape

You can design your star in many different ways. I placed a dot at the center of the top of the bags (2 1/2 inches). Then I placed dots on each side of the bag 3 inches from the top. I drew a line from each side dot towards the top center. I cut along these lines through all 9 bags. I also made a smaller cutout 3 1/2 inches from the bottom along each side. These cutouts were 2 inches in height with the tip of their triangle 1 inch towards the center.

Step 3: Open Star

Next carefully open the star to see the design. Some of the bags may be glued shut and should be slowly opened so as not to tear. Use a small stapler to secure the first and last bag together at the top and then through the smaller cutout in the middle. Use a pencil to poke a hole through two of the bags. Use a string through the pencil hole and out the small cutouts to attach to the wall. Hang stars on command hooks, nails or even attach with painter's tape.

Step 4: Paint Stars

Last spraypaint the stars or just leave them plain white. We love the solid white and brown paper bag stars for Christmas and Thanksgiving but the colors are definitely fun for birthday parties. We used these for a rainbow themed birthday party.
