Introduction: Reading Bench for Kids

I build a reading bench for kids. It cost me less than 20 euros of money and 2 hours of time.

Step 1: Inspirations

I found some inspiration via google images and amazon.

I used both pictures because I wanted to have :

-> like the 'grey one', some sides where the kids can rest/sleep

->like the 'red one', some place to put the big books, on the back of the bench. (places under the bench are quite small if you want your 3-years old kid sit on it, so the big books can only stand in the back of the bench)

Step 2: Blueprints

I made it with google sketchup.

Length measures are in millimeters.

Angular measures are in degrees.

You will be able to find :

-> the final view of the object

-> an exploded and colored view (for identifying the pieces)

-> a proposition for cutting agencement (could be optimized, but I'm not a specialist)

Step 3: Preparation

The wood is OSB3 12mm.

It is solid enough for an adult (around 100kgs) to sit on it.

I bought an entire piece for 20 euros.

I cut all my small pieces according to the blueprint given in previous step.

I used a normal jigsaw, who can be oriented at 22.5° (and 45° but I used only the 0° and 22.5° orientations)

Step 4: Assembly

I used small and thin screws (not nails!) to assemble everything together.
Be careful, if the screws are too big, the wood panel could 'explode'.

Better to try the screws on some residuals before 'screwing' your pieces!!

Step 5: Details and Finitions

I used a piece of metal junk (don't know from where it comes) to strengthen the bench sides' backs.

I still have to finish some pillows with velcro tape for the seat and the sides.
