Introduction: Real Cherry Popsicle With Added Trace Minerals

About: I am married with two children. Spring, summer, and fall are my very favorite times of the year. I enjoy working in the yard, sewing, cooking, quilting, gardening, and creating. I do this to keep my sanity.

I was trying to make up my mind what type of treat I wanted to make for the contest that are going on now. I wanted to know more about who invented Popsicles so I did a search. In 1905 an eleven year old boy named Frank Epperson from California invented the Popsicle. In 1924 he patented the Popsicle and called it Epsicle. Article here: http://www.nytimes.com/1983/10/27/obituaries/frank... I thought it was interesting that an eleven year old kid invented them. I made several different recipes for cherry Popsicles and this was our favorite of the three.

In this tutorial I will show you how to make a delicious Popsicle that is made from real cherries and added with minerals. Most American diets are deficient in trace minerals. I added the mineral water because my husband will not take vitamin or mineral supplements. This is a sneaky way to add them if you have a family member who does not like taking supplements, this is a good way to make sure they have them. I will also share how I made the mold for them. If you like this instructable your vote will be much appreciated when the vote button is at the top right corner. Lets make some Popsicles!

Step 1: Ingredients and Supplies

This is what you will need:

Fresh cherries 2 cups for about 3 Popsicles

Ionic mineral water ( I used about 2-4 T) ( I make my own with Adya) If using Adya don't add drops without diluting them in water following the directions on the bottle.

Pink salt just a pinch (not shown)

Natural sweetener (I used Agave nectar)

Pure Vanilla extract 1/2 teaspoon or more as desired. The vanilla really set off the flavor.

Blender, Popsicle sticks, cookie sheet, plate, and Popsicle molds or make your own mold like I did.

I know it sounds like a small amount of minerals but when you add the mineral water to all the foods you cook or make it adds up.

Step 2: Cut Plastic for Mold

Making the mold:

I used the plastic container from fig cookies.

I simply cut a slit in one end of the plastic to stick Popsicle sticks or spoons in.

Step 3: Wash Cherries and Remove Stems and Pits

Wash and pit the cherries:

Step 4: Add Ingredients and Blend

Add the cherries, water, vanilla, sweetener, and salt to the blender and blend until smooth.

Please note:

I try not to add a lot of sweeteners to my recipes but I discovered when you make Popsicles you need to add more than what you would prefer because freezing them for some reason makes them less sweet.

Step 5: Fill the Molds With the Cherry Mixture

Pour the cherry mixture into the mold and freeze for several hours until firm. I placed my homemade mold on a cookie sheet with a plate to slant the mold so it did not leak.

Step 6: Sunshiine's Final Thoughts

This recipe was a hit with my guys. I liked it because they were getting a healthy homemade snack with added minerals! It also cuts down on food waste. I hope you try this tasty frozen snack! Thanks for stopping by and do have a safe and happy summer!

Oh I know that tastes good because I pit and freeze my cherries (Lamberts) and eat them over the next few months. The next best thing to a fresh cherry is a frozen cherry. The only thing I need is a bigger freezer.

sounds really tasty, but I will say unless your doctor tells you to take multivitamins or mineral supplements they aren't needed. Odds are you and your husband are getting all the minerals you need from your food and any extra you may take in via suppliments will just pas right out when you urinate.

Thanks so much for sharing your thoughts. My family is deficient in minerals and our doctors have suggested mineral supplements. The interesting thing is my adult children live in different states. I have been adding mineral water to our food and drinks for about a month. My family have been doing the same and we all are feeling better. Not all minerals are created equal though. Ionic sulfate minerals are absorbed nearly instantly and reaches the bloodstream and cells faster. Quality of vitamins and minerals as well as how food is grown (organically) will help the body absorb them. Here is an article about soil depletion that might interest you. http://www.betterhealththruresearch.com/document26...

    Have a splendorous week.
