Intro: Really Cheap But Effective Laptop Case

Tired of your laptop getting all beat up, but can't afford (Or just don't want to buy) a new case, here's a quick fix.

STEP 1: Motivation

Just throw your laptop in your bag day in and day out, and get all sorts of nasty scratches and bangs from keys, wrenches, paperback books, pens, pencils, the swords and arrows of outrageous fortune, and all the other things you keep in your bag.

Get fed up and try to find a solution.
something that will not only provide a cover, but also a little protection. While your thinking, get the mail.

STEP 2: Mail

In the mail, I got one of those manila envelopes used for sending large books and the like, just about the dimensions of my laptop. I don't really need to go into any more details, do I?

It provides protection from scratches, as well as a little bump protection as well, from the nice bubble-wrap lining.

I use a fedex plastic bubble wrap mailer, with some gaffer tape as reinforcement on the sides. A beaten up old mailing envelope also has the advantage of not looking as much like something someone would want to steal as a laptop bag does.

I did this. Even though I bought the envelope (I have a large laptop) and tape, it was still only like $5 for materials. I had to modify the envelope a bit so it could fit into my laptop bag but that was easy enough. This is an inexpensive and easy project. Plus, if it gets damaged, big deal. Commercial sleeves for my laptop are $30+, this is $5. The only problem was that I didn't take this sleeve totally out of the bag to pull the computer out and the plastic of the bubble wrap ripped the two of little feet off the bottom of my laptop and left an annoying large smear of sticky stuff on the sleeve and computer case. I should've realized this beforehand, it's quite a snug fit but live and learn.

i would totally mummify that package in duct tape, blue if ya have it. it would make it much stronger, much more resistant to wear, and cooler looking. you could also add handles if yerr the smart typa person.

i like this idea, I am currently too cheap and strapped for time to make/buy one. Plus the ones I am finding are too large for my small bag needs.
