Intro: Rebar Hacksaw

This instructable will be showing you how to make a hacksaw from a piece of rebar.

STEP 1: Designing the Frame

First draw out the design of the hack saw frame.

STEP 2: Shaping

Now heat the rebar and bend until you get the shape you want.

STEP 3: Cutting Slots for You Blade

Now get a cutting wheel on a grinder and cut a slot on each end so that the blade will fit.

STEP 4: Drill Holes

Now drill holes for the bolts that will hold the blade in place.

STEP 5: Welding the Nut On

Now weld a nut on one side.

STEP 6: Putting the Blade On

Now this part is important. Because if you don't do it right the saw will not work. In order for the saw blade not to bend or flex while you try to cut a piece of metal you have to keep tension on the saw blade. So before you put the saw blade on you need to bend one end out a little so that once you bolt the saw blade on there will be a lot of tension on the blade.

This is the kind of stuff I LOVE! How to repurpose or use one thing that it may not have been intended for. I do this so much, and it can be very difficult to find stuff like this online, so thanks!

I cannot wait until I have the work space. you fill my mind with ideas. thanks
That looks like a hacksaw that can last a lifetime, or two, or three..... Nice job!
A lot of "industrial punk" imagery going on there.
