Record Crate
Intro: Record Crate
Built for my girlfriend so she can store her vinyls. She expects to acquire a lot of records, which explains it being so long.
STEP 1: Materials
I used 4 "Red-Stained Fir Dog Ear Fence Picket" for the running boards ($1.78ea) and 1 "2 in. x 4 in. x 16 ft. #2 Prime Pine Pressure-Treated Lumber" ($8.57ea). I tried to start with a pallet but the quality of mine was too low for indoor use. Any type of wood screws would work as well.
STEP 2: Cut
I cut the red fir in half both width and lengthwise for the sides and bottom (4 planks per board) and strips for the sides that will fit a 12.5in record inside. For height I cut the long plank into four 8in beams.
STEP 3: Assemble
I made it as simply as I could, three beams on all of the walls with the small sides having a 1/2in cut for hand grips. I decided against a middle beam on the bottom because it would have been difficult to drill.
STEP 4: Complete
I sanded the whole thing and used a wood burner to add her name and the date. You could add a stain to be very professional but I chose not to.

Wow the crate turned out really gorgeous, looks like it'll work really well! By the way welcome to instructables! You should think about entering our First Time Authors Challenge!

It could be too late now, but how would I go about doing that?

I'm so sorry but as of right now the First Time Author challenge has ended. But any other instructables you make the in future we would love to see compete in contests. You can just click the contest tab at the top of page to bring you there and then you can enter the individual contests from that page.

Nice job, I need to make a few for my album collection. You might want to think about adding a finish...pressure treated lumber contains arsenic. You should wash your hands after handling it.

Thank you so much for your concern, but I looked it up, and from what I saw,

these disagree. If you have a more reliable source, then please let me know. As far as my search, though, Arsenic seems to be mostly gone. But please, if you know better, let me know. I want to be as safe as possible. Thank you!
