Introduction: Recycled Macrame Bracelets

This recycled macrame bracelet DIY will hopefully be easy to understand and make yourself.I tried to use a simple knot but you can also crochet these bracelets with a similar technique, some of which are shown in the main picture.

I often make these sorts of bracelets as presents for my friends and family,as they are enjoyable to make and give, especially when you begin to use different knot styles/techniques to see the different effects they give.

Supplies

-Recycled t-shirt yarn (brands like 'Hoooked' ,or your own t-shirt yarn)

-crochet hook or needle

-scissors

-sellotape (optional)

Step 1: Cut Material to Length

The length changes depending on the material, but generally it is loosely about8x the circumference of your wrist , for the macrame part of the bracelet and about6x the circumference of your wrist , for the main structural part of the bracelet.

Step 2: Begin the Knotting

Firstly ,fold the longest piece of yarn in half, and align it with the beginning of the shorter piece of yarn.

Then bring the left piece of yarn underneath the central piece of yarn and lying across the top of the right piece of yarn.Leaving the right piece of yarn beneath the left and bring it across the central piece and through the loop created by the left piece of yarn.Pull this knot tight.

For the next stitch,it is the same but reversed.Firstly bring the right piece of yarn underneath the central piece of yarn and lying across the top of the left piece of yarn.Leaving the left piece of yarn beneath of the right and bring it across the central piece and through the loop created by the right piece of yarn.

Step 3: Continue Step 2 Until Desired Length

Continuing step 2 in the correct order, will create a long string of knots which will make the main part of the bracelet.

In this particular bracelet i have done about 24 individual knots,it is usually about 20-35 knots.

Step 4: Clean Up the Knots and Finish Off the Main Bracelet

Using the crochet hook, hide the excess yarn underneath the knots.

Before moving onto the next step, make sure that the main bracelet is in the middle of the central strand of yarn-this can be done by pushing the knots down the yarn.

Step 5: Creating the Connecting Knots

If there is extra yarn left ,this can be cut off(keeping at least 10 inches/25 cm to each side of the bracelets).

After aligning the bracelet towards the middle of the yarn, you can begin to (with another piece of yarn) knot ,about 5-10 knots and cleaning these knots up as in ,Steps2 ,3 and 4.

Step 6: Finishing the Bracelet

To finish off, shorten the yarn at the end of the bracelet(optional, depending on size)and tie a knot (of any kind) to keep the knots in place and make the bracelet easily worn and adjusted.

And your bracelet is ready to be worn and enjoyed.
