Replacing a Fridge Defrost Timer.

Introduction: Replacing a Fridge Defrost Timer.

My ten year old fridge recently stopped working. After checking power supply wiring I thought that the compressor was dead. After further troubleshooting I found the existing mechanical defrost timer to be stuck. Turning it manually caused the compressor to work again. Hooray!

I detest mechanical control equipment so I ordered an electronic timer from Amazon.com. It is a direct replacement for the mechanical timer.

Step 1: Removing the Mechanical Timer.

The existing timer was on a plate on the back of the fridge near the compressor. 4 screws had to come off to get the timer off.

Step 2: Putting the New Electronic Timer.

I used a 10 minutes defrost cycle every 12 hours. Installation was straightforward.

Step 3: Powering Up.

After the job was done I plugged back in the fridge and she works so fine. Now my new electronic timer should function long and worry free.
