After working several hours and planning i had finally finished my "robotic" arm. This arm can pick up things such as tubes, pencils, markers, and much more.
Dude sorry but the word "Robotic" has no place here.Its fully mechanical and it likes more to a steampunk hand replacer than a real even mechanical hand...
The fact that it's mechanical doesn't disclude it from robotics. A robot is just a physical device meant to simulate life or to perform labors that may be too dangerous or complex (in fact, the word robot comes from the czech word "robota", meaning slave labor), and is capable of performing those actions without human stimuli. Notice how my definition doesn't say anything about electrical VS. mechanical.
Needless to say, this isn't a robot because it requires a human to operate it. But it's still a really cool project. And in the instructables and DIY communities, that's all that matters :).
This is pretty cool (although, as mentioned, is more anamotronic than robotic).
I did something similar when I was like 10 using drinking straws and yarn. Ah, the good old days...
Any way to decrease the size of the outer frame on the sides? At this point, it inhibits the use of the end effector (thanks toymaker) within a normal sized sleeve, and the effect is lost if you can see your hand as well.
