Introduction: Rov Submarine
Hello all and welcome to this intstructables where I will be instructing how to build an rov submarine.
Materials Needed
- Small plastic box
- 3 switches
- 3 DC motors
- A battery pack
- Water Resistant Goop or Hot Glue (preferably Goop)
- Pvc Pipe
- 20 feet of Ethernet Cord
Tools needed
- Rotary Tool
- Box Cutters
- 3D Printer
- Soldering Iron
- Drill
Step 1: Building Your Control Box
The first thing you are going to do when building your control box is plan out where you want your switches to sit. Due to the height an width of my box I was unable to place my controller anywhere other than at the top of my control box. Next take a ruler and measure the size of your switches. Use the to mark the width and length of your switch. This will make it easier to cut out the rectangles.
Step 2: Cutting Out the Holes for Your Switches
In order to do this you will need a drill with a saw bit attached to it
This step is simple. Cut out the rectangles to your liking. Check in between cutting to see if your switches can/ will be able to fit into your holes. Once you have finished cutting out your holes put your switches inside and add hot glue if needed.
Tip: Make your holes a tad bit smaller so your switches can fit snuggly into the holes. This will keep you from having to use hot glue
Step 3: Wiring Your Control Box
Items needed
wire of 2 different colors
wire cutters
soldering Iron
Soldering metal
Step 1: Take one of your colored wires and cut them 1 inch and a half. Repeat this step 3 times
Step 1.5 : Strip the ends of your motors so the metal can touch the metal of the switch.
Step 2: Take one of your wires and place it on end of the very first positive notch and the very last negative notch like shown. Then take the another wire on the same switch and place it from the first negative notch to the last positive notch.
Step 3: Repeat Step two for each of your switches.
Step 4: After placing all of your wires on your switches, solder them down with your soldering iron and wire. Please be careful the iron does get very hot.
After you finish soldering your wires.
Step 6: Cut six pieces of 2.5 inch wires and strip both ends once again. Then create a small hook on one of the wire only.
Step 7: Hook the wire onto the middle notch.
Step 8: Solder the two wires down.
Step 9: take the colored wires in you Ethernet cable and connect one of the wires to each motor.
When doing this make sure that you untwist the cable before soldering it on.
Step 4: Wiring Your Motors
Items needed
Soldering Iron
Soldering wire
Sissors
20 feet of ethnet cable
Step 1: unwrap the twisted cable
Step 2: solder down the single colored wire to one of the designated notches on the motors.
Step 3: repeat 1 and 2 to all of your motors
Step 5: Creating Your Motors
You will need:
10 Inches of pvc pipe with a diameter of 2.5 cm.
A power tool with a saw attachment.
A ruler.
Step 1: Measure the length of your dc motor.
Step 2; Transfer that measurement onto your pvc pipe..
Step 3: Cut off that section of your pvc pipe.
Step 4: Repeat steps 1-4 2 more times
End result
Step 6: Putting Together the Motor and Pvc Pipe
Items needed
- Goop or Hot Glue
-Rotary tool
Step 1: Place your dc motor into your pvc pipe.
Step 2: Put goop all around you motor with out getting in the spinny part of the motor.
Step 3: Repeat this 2 more times.
Step 7: Creating the 3D Design
Items needed:
Computer
Autodesk inventor
3D printing
This part of the instructable is left up to you the inventor. Below I will place picture of what my Rov looks like.
When creating your rov make you that you make it to size and that you measure you motors fit into the rov.
Step 8: Connecting Your Motors to Rov
Items needed
Goop or hot glue
Step 1: Put you motors into the places that you created for them.
Step 2: Use goop to keep the motors in place.
Step 3: Repeat for the rest of you motors.
Step 9: Finished
Your Rov should be finished and working nicely. Thank you for visiting
