Hi guys and gals, this is my first instructable and I will be showing you how to make a very cheap and easy to make fishing jig using all those leftover rubber bands you might have laying about. This lure is great for fishing any number of species of fish and takes no time at all to assemble. I actually have a ton of success fishing local irrigation canals with this simple rig and have caught everything from Bass and Catfish to Seasbass and crabs with it. While this is not the finest lure ever made (its made with rubber bands sheesh) its free! So lets get started.

Step 1: Items Needed

The ingredients

Rubber Bands (colored works best)
Wire (with some decent strength)
Beads (any color,size,shape)
Bullet weight (optional)
hook (your choice)
colored thread (optional)

The Tools

Leatherman or multitool

Note:

While this whole project can be done with just a leatherman if you have access to tools such as needle nose pliers,and jewelers pliers it can make things go by quicker, but again they are not needed I have made this rig with just a leatherman or multitool

Step 2: Cut Wire

Start by cutting yourself a decent amount of wire, approximately 5 to 6 inches is a good starting point.

Step 3: Create Loop

Create your first loop and add the fishing hook of your choice, for this example I left the hook off.

Step 4: Rubber Bands Galore

After you have your loop made and your hook attached add the rubber bands of your choice.I went with mostly yellow and a few red, approximately 10 rubber bands is optimal.

Step 5: Secure Rubber Bands

Next you will want to wrap the wire around the rubber bands,and squeeze the wire down tight after making the loop to keep the rubber bands in place, apply a little super glue for extra precaution if you feel the need.

Step 6: Add Some Weight

Add some weight, I like to add a bullet weight because I fish some strong flowing water and need it to sink fast but you can adjust this for whatever your needs are.

Step 7: Flare!!!

Add a bit more color and flare, I simply used a neon green bobber stopper I had laying in my tackle box as well as some salmon egg beads. You could use any bright or metallic colored beads you have laying about at this point, ask yourself what colors you have had great luck with.

Step 8: Step 8

Finnish your jig off by making the end loop, twist it and snip off any leftover wire. Lastly take a pair of scissors or a knife and cut the rubber bands in half.

Now you are ready to hit your local lakes,rivers and streams for some fishing action!
