Introduction: Rustic Hairpin Dining Table
After browsing instructables for a while I decided to build a hairpin leg table. I wanted to create a rustic looking tables that give a bolt together feel.
Step 1: Step 1: Materials
After browsing reddit/r/DIY for a while I decided to build a hairpin leg table. Found these legs on https://madlegger.com.au/ ( they are the cheapest around) bought everything else from Bunnings (Australian here). I also wanted to create a rustic bolded together look !!
Materials:
4 * 1.2m*200mm*50mm timber slab (from Bunnings)
4 * 710mm hairpin legs (from https://madlegger.com.au/)
4* 8mm threaded rods (from Bunnings)
8* 8mm washers (from Bunnings)
8* 10mm washers (from Bunnings)
Step 2: Step 2: Mark Holes
To create the bolt together look I decided to have steel rods through each slab. First mark the holes.
Step 3: Step 3: Drill the Holes
Using a impact drill and a dowel jig (use a dowel jig to ensure your holes are straight), drill 4 10mm holes on each slab,
Step 4: Step 4: Assemble and Sand
Put the slabs together to see if it all fits and sand down both side of the slabs for smooth finish.
Step 5: Step 5: Stain the Slabs and Connect
I stained the slabs with a walnut colour wood stain (you can pick any colour of your choice).
Once stained, I used a KREG jig to drill holes on the back side of the table and screw the slabs together. Finally I cut the excess threaded rods off using a angle grinder after putting on the washer and bolts.
