Introduction: SPIRAL LED LAMPSHADE

About: I am a tech enthusiast and like making electronics stuffs and I basically like experiments with circuits and electronics

Hello and Welcome back !!

All of us like lighting shades and home décor whether it be Halloween or Diwali so in this article we will make a awesome look and eye soothing as well as cheap ( as compared to commercial value ) SPIRAL LED LAMP with which you can decorate your house .

This SPIRAL LAMP SHADE WILL JUST ILLUMINATE YOUR HOMES AND WILL ENLIGHTEN YOUR DAY

SO LET'S START WITH BUILD !!!

Step 1: WATCH THE VIDEO FOR BETTER UNDERSTANDING

So for better understand of the build watch the video first !!!

Step 2: SELECTING THE ENCLOSURE

First of all let's take a not so good looking container and cover the entire surface with a permanent marker to give it a finished look we can also use some sort of color to make it look better but for now it look fine .

Step 3: MARKING THE PLACES

After giving it a better look than a scrap piece . This step is the most important one !!!!

Now we have to start marking the holes with a white marker . After every hole leave a little gap so that while drilling the holes don't clash each other .

Draw the holes in such a way that after every hole there a minor slope to make it look perfectly SPIRAL.

AND one more thing the beginning and ending of the holes should be in the same line parallel to each other .

Step 4: DRILLING AND PLACING LED

THEN Drill the holes as per the markings on the enclosure and then start marking the place to fit the led

will fit on the lid of container and will bombard light through every hole drilled

BUT WHICH LED TO USE ?? NORMAL ONES??

WHAT IS THE LUMINOUS FLUX IT EMITS???

Step 5: 3W LED

SO IN THIS BUILD WE WILL USE A 3W SUPERNRIGHT LED NOT THE ORDINARY ONES LIKE THE 3mm AND 5 mm ONES.

IT WILL BOMBARD A BRIGHT FLASH OF LIGHT EVEN IN THE DAYTIME WHICH WOULD BE PERFECT SUIT FOR THIS BUILD .

BUT WHY NOT 5W OR 10W??

TO ANSWER THIS , THE 3W LED CAN FIT PERFECTLY IN THE CONTAINER AND WILL NOT NEED A HEAT SINK AT SOME POINT IF A CONDUCTIVE THERMAL PASTE IS APPLIED .

NOW WE HAVE TO DESIGN A SUITABLE LED DRIVER CIRCUIT FOT IT .

Step 6: TESTING THE LED BRIGHTNESS

SO THE LED LOOK QUITE BRIGHT EVEN IN THE BROAD DAYLIGHT . SO NOW LET ME DESCRIBE THE TEST CIRCUIT OR BASICALLY LED DRIVER CIRCUIT .

Step 7: TEST CIRCUIT DESIGN

First of all i had two options to drive led i can use a 555 timer or build a relaxation oscillator . So i stayed on the with the second option . The reason behind it is that 555 timer can source a max. current of about 150-180mA as per the datasheet but the 3W led needs a constant current source between 250mA to 700mA max . we can also use a lm317 as variable source but that would become too complicated and that's the topic of next article .

So i stayed with the relaxation oscillator which will drive the mosfet (not having a mosfet driver due to some availability issues) but anyways this also works fine .

But remember a thing to add a inductor and flyback diode so that it opposes change in current and maintains constant current .

I have used here a opamp 741 as a relaxation oscillator for about a frequency of 10khz you can find many videos on designing a relaxation oscillator on web .

Step 8: BUILDING IT ONE PERFBORAD

Then after testing the circuit i starting soldering on a piece of perfboard

Ans on final thing Stay tuned on my YOUTUBE CHANNEL because I am gonna build a better version of a 3W led driver circuit as which will also involve some kind of feedback and will be a much enhanced version.

SO thank you and enjoy the shades.

Step 9: ENJOY THE SHADES
