Salty Bug, Caramel Stuffed Apples

Introduction: Salty Bug, Caramel Stuffed Apples

About: I'm a total gearhead. I love working on cars, airplanes, rockets, sailboats, whatever. Cars i've owned and/or rebuilt: 1966 Pontiac Grand Prix, 1977 Lotus Esprit, 1979 Fiat X1/9 & Strada, 1970 Ford Bronco, …

I recently saw a recipe to stuff the center of apples with caramel which makes them much easier to eat!

I decided to make my own spin with adding crunchy and believe it or not tasty insects.

My favorite is the mealy worm which has a nutty taste.

Least favorite is grasshopper which tastes like the meadows.

For this recipe i chose June Bugs and Mealy worms which complement the caramel.

more info about bug eating:

Entomophagy is the practice of eating insects.

According to the Food And Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO),  it is estimated that at least 2 billion people worldwide eat insects. [REF: ]

The most commonly eaten insect groups are beetles, caterpillars, bees, wasps, ants, grasshoppers, locusts, crickets, cicadas, leaf and planthoppers, scale insects and true bugs, termites, dragonflies and flies.

Crickets have twice the protein as the same serving of beef and they are much lower in fat.

Check out my blog of edible insects in the news.

    Couple of thoughts:

    1. Sprinkle the apple with lemon juice and it will stop it going brown

    2. You can make caramel from either sugar - heat in pan until caramel forms or condensed (sweetened milk) from this you get fudge.
    3. Skip the insects. Only my opinion - even 2 billion people can be wrong. Assuming you can afford a different form of protein

I love that you're concerned with the unappealing browning of the apple.
