Introduction: Scones

Scones, fried dough with sugar, honey, and buttery toppings. You can't go wrong there! This also serves as my roll dough recipe as well.

Step 1: What You'll Need

Ingredients

( Note this is a double recipe)
  • 2 Tbs or 2 pkgs of yeast
  • 1/2 cup warm water
  • 2 cup scalded milk
  • 1/2 cup sugar
  • 1/2 cup butter
  • 3 tsp salt
  • 2 eggs
  • 7 cups of flour

Step 2: Making the Dough

Combine yeast with a 1/2 cup of warm water also add about a tsp of sugar to it and that will make your yeast rise faster. Set that aside and get out a sauce pan. On medium heat combine milk, sugar, butter. And cook until the butter and sugar are all melted together. Then cool to lukewarm. Add to mixture 3 cups of flour, beaten eggs, and yeast. Gradually add your remaining 4 cups of flour until it forms a soft dough.  Lastly place in a well greased bowl, turning once to grease all sides. Cover and let rise until it doubles ( 1 1/2 to 2 hours). I usually make mine the night before and then take it out about an hour before I plan on cooking them.

Step 3: Frying Up the Yummy Goodness

Heat up your pan of oil. Then flour your hands and dig in. Break off balls about the size of your palm and then just start working and pulling it until you have stretched it out to a suitable size. I like to drop a little piece in the oil to see if it is hot enough and when it is start dropping in a couple at a time. When one side is golden brown flip over and do the same to the other. Remove from oil and top with your favorite topping. Personally I like butter and honey while my husband and kids like them coated in sugar.
