Introduction: Secret Coffee Cup Candy Dispenser
My Brother and I thought of this brainstorming for the BetaCup contest. This is a cool way too hide your candy at your desk. The candy comes out when you twist the sleeve. Plus it's fun to show people too!
Thank you to everyone who commented, I rushed the writing portion.
I'll try to clarify some steps to make it easier to follow.
Please vote for it too!
You'll need:
A grande size cup
A tall size cup
A lid
A sleeve
A razor or knife
A pencil and marker
A hot glue gun
Candy!
Step 1: Making Candy Hole
1. Take your grande size cup and find a spot for the opening. The best place is along the bottom next to the seam.
2. Use a pencil to mark off a square larger than your candy. This was about an inch for me.
3.Cut out the hole with a knife. Make it a clean cut, we'll save this piece for later
Step 2: Trimming Your Tall Cup
1. Take your tall size cup and cut off the top lip.
2. Flip it over and cut out the bottom piece, save this too.
3. Tear cup along the seam as cleanly as possible.
4. Now slide this into your grande cup, you'll notice the tall cup overlaps. Mark this new edge (see image) with a pen.
5. Remove the tall cup and reseal it along this edge with hot glue.
6. Put your slenderized tall cup back inside, and trace the candy hole with a pen. I forgot to take a picture of this step, so I made one in paint.
7. Cut out your matching hole, once again save this scrap for later.
Step 3: Making the Sliding Tab
1. Put the sleeve on the grande, and stand the two cups side by side. Measure off at least and inch below the top of the sleeve. Mark this on the tall cup.
2. Make two lines (about an inch apart) perpendicular to this line.
3. Cut the two vertical lines.
4. Bend this over to create a tab, and crease the fold.
Step 4: Combining the Cups
1. Slide the tall cup inside the grande, while still keeping the tab pointed down.
2. Line up the two holes.
3. Take a pen and mark off the top of the tab, with the hole open.
4. Twist the cups to the side, (either way) until the hole is closed, mark it again.
5. Remove tall size cup. You should now have two little marks
6. Use a knife to connect these two lines into a slit. This was awkward so be careful with knives.
7. Now you should be able to make the slit bigger, slice a second line just under the first. Tear this out.
8. Put the tall cup back in, and slip the tab through the slit.
9. Test it back and forth. I had to trim an edge because it would catch. Look for any issue.
Step 5: Finishing Touches
1. Take the bottom we cut out earlier. Glue this onto the piece we cut out from the tall size cup.
2. Insert this into the tall size cup, angle it downwards towards the opening.
3. Hot glue this to the tall size cup, it'll be easier to do this with the cups separate.
4. Reassembly the cups, pushing the tab through.
5. Twist the tab into the "closed" position.
6. Take the piece we first cut out from the grande cup. Place it onto the tall cup wear the hole would be. If you don't have a graphic on your cup you could skip this step.
7. For dark cups, take a pencil around the white edges to make it less noticeable.
8. Make sure your sleeve still fits over the cup with the tab there. If not, you can tear it along the seam and re-glue it for a looser fit. Remove the sleeve.
9. Place a dab of hot glue on the outside of the tab, slide the sleeve on over it. Don't push it up too far because you want to be able to move it easily.
Step 6: Fill With Candy & Enjoy!
Fill it with what ever will easily roll out of it. I found that it can be gently shaken out too. Put the lid back on and you're done. Enjoy your secret candy stash!

I made this with a Starbucks cup, but the hot glue doesn't stick very well. It breaks off after a few days of use. Any suggestions?? Thanks :D

Nice! In Canada, Shoppers Drugmart is selling $2 M&M packages, on sale, and they have "boxtop" type coupons on them, collect 8 for 2 free movie tix. So $16 for 2 movie tix, and freee candy. :) I just needed somewhere to put my candy, so I can send in my tops. This will do nicely.

'Tall'.. 'grande? Which is bigger? Context makes it seem that 'tall' is smaller than 'grande'. Is that right?

Im still confused about Which one is the tall, Grande, Standarnd cup... the cups are all the same pattern & colors, and you haven't pointed out which one is which... i suggest you to tag/label each cup in the pictures, or next time, to make each cup size a different color.. Even though im still confused so far, This is an Awesome instructable ;P keep it up :)

What a great idea! Use your imagination folks :0} I'm going to make mine my way and use it for pecans and walnuts that I like to snack on. Also the double cup keeps little critters from crawling in the single cup hole. I think I will paint a sign on top of the lid -- You Touch My Cup -- I break your fingers! In a nice way of course!

It's kind of confusing, especially step 2 to 4. Secondly, it seems like this would jam pretty easily.

I am gonna vote for you wish you luck this is the best instruct able :) :)

This does NOT deserve to be in front of second place! Somebody's found out how to hack the system!

Awesome idea!! But you could have made the instructations more clear. Good luck for the contest!

Nice idea but I found the instructions difficult to follow. More detail would be helpful, as would better separation of steps. For example you say: "Take a pen and mark off the top of the tab, with the hole open." What tab? How does it work? What does it do? I'm still not sure.

all u have to do is cut a hole in a coffee cup and but the lid back on.

both the inner and outer cup have holes in them, and by twisting the cup sleeve the holes line up and the candy comes out.
