An easy recycling project that is great for micro-herbs and starting plants.

Step 1: Get the Stuff

All you need is a sturdy water bottle, cotton twine a knife, a drill (optional), and sandpaper (also optional)

Step 2: Assemble the Stuff

First, cut the bottle in half (I used the ridges on the bottle to ensure a clean cut) and remove the cap. Cut about two feet of the twine. Then, cut a hole big enough so that the twine can fit through it and small enough so that the dirt wont fall through. Insert the string in the hole and screw the cap back on. As for the other half, just set it aside, you're going to need it later.

Step 3: Plant Some Things in the Stuff

Fill your new planter with some soil according to your plants' needs and place them in the planter at the correct depth. Then coil the majority of the length of the twine around the seeds, and cover them up. Take the other side of the bottle you cut earlier and put a little bit of water in it, and (carefully) place the top half on the bottom half, making sure to lay the remaining string in the water, and Viola! you just made the world just a tad bit cleaner.

This planter works by wicking water through the twine and into the soil around it, so the more coils you make, the more water your plant will get.
