Intro: Sew and Appliqué a Circle Easily!

Sometimes sewing a polka dot quilt can be really tedious and so you tend to avoid it. Well I have learned a new trick that will make your polka dots come out neatly like a professional ! Although this tutorial is for circles this technique can be used for many shapes.

STEP 1: Materials

Scrap fabric

Lightweight fusible interfacing

Circle template of the size you want- lids, cd's , plates

Sewing machine

STEP 2: Preparations!

First get your circle template. It could be a lid or a CD or something that is the size you want. Place it on your scrap fabric and measure the required width and cut a long strip. Then cut it into squares. Do the same for the fusing fabric.

STEP 3: Sew - the Secret

Now for the secret ! Place the right side of the fabric with the shiny side of the fusing (that is the side that will stick) and pin it. Draw your circle on it. Now sew right round the circle. Yes, I mean right round!

Now cut around with the pinking scissors. Make sure you do not cut the stitches. Now slowly lift the fusing and make a slight cut. Do not cut the printed fabric. Now turn it inside out!

STEP 4: Press It

Now for it to be nicely pressed we would usually use an iron. Do not under any circumstances do that! You would not like the result. Finger press only! I will explain later. Crease the edges with your hand and place all the circles under something heavy.

STEP 5: Let the Magic Begin!

Place the circles on the fabric you want it appliqued on. NOW you can iron :-)

Yes, seriously just iron them on and you are done. If you like you can turn them over and iron again.

The interfacing holds the circles perfectly!

STEP 6: Do What You Please!

Now it's up to you what you want to do. You can either sew a zigzag around blanket stitch, blind hem stitch or just do a free hand quilting!
